Set against the iconic backdrop of Alexandra Palace, the adrenaline-fuelled event will take place on Saturday 20 June 2026 and promises to be one of the most entertaining days on London’s summer calendar.
After a hugely successful UK outing in 2024, which saw 15,000 spectators pack the hillside to cheer on fearless competitors, the much-loved downhill race is once again opening applications to Britain’s most inventive engineers, thrill-seekers and imaginative minds.
What Is the Red Bull Soapbox Race?
For the uninitiated, the Red Bull Soapbox Race challenges teams to design, build and race their own hand-crafted, human-powered vehicles — with no engines, no limits and plenty of imagination. Judging is based not only on speed, but also on creativity, design and showmanship, making it as much a spectacle as it is a race.
As competitors launch themselves down Alexandra Palace’s steep North London slope, anything can happen. Past races have featured everything from flying bathtubs to mobile teapots, with spectacular wipeouts and triumphant finishes both part of the fun.
A Course Designed for Mayhem
The 2026 course will feature a series of signature obstacles, twists and unexpected challenges designed to test even the bravest teams. True to Soapbox tradition, the track is expected to deliver the unpredictable, the chaotic and the brilliantly absurd — guaranteeing huge reactions from the crowd.
