NFL CONFIRMS RETURN TO MUNICH IN 2026 AND 2028 AS PART OF EXPANDED INTERNATIONAL GROWTH PLAN!

The NFL has officially announced its return to Munich, Germany for regular-season games in 2026 and 2028, strengthening its long-term commitment to one of its fastest-growing international fanbases. The league’s decision follows a renewed multi-year partnership with the City of Munich and FC Bayern Munich, marking another major milestone in the NFL’s global expansion strategy.

The upcoming matchups will once again take place at the FC Bayern Munich Stadium, which previously hosted highly successful NFL Germany Games in 2022 and 2024. You can read more about past NFL International Games on the NFL’s official site (https://www.nfl.com/international).

Germany: The NFL’s Biggest European Market

Germany continues to be a cornerstone of the NFL’s international growth efforts, with more than 20 million fans—the league’s largest European audience. Beyond bringing regular-season games to Munich, the NFL is also deepening its investment in developmental pathways, particularly through flag football, the non-contact format that will make its Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028 (LA28).

Since launching NFL Flag Germany in 2020, more than 40,000 young athletes have participated across school programmes and community leagues. The initiative reflects the NFL’s goal to build a long-term sporting legacy in Europe by growing participation from youth level upward.

Munich Leaders Celebrate the NFL’s Return

Verena Dietl, Mayor of Munich, highlighted the partnership as a testament to the city’s global stature:

“The previous games have not only won the hearts of fans, they have also strengthened our successful cooperation with the NFL… I am looking forward to the upcoming games in 2026 and 2028, which will deliver world-class sporting action and unforgettable excitement.”

Jürgen Muth, Managing Director of Allianz Arena GmbH, echoed the sentiment:

“Our stadium has established itself on the world map of sports… These games are examples of the global enthusiasm for the sport and collaboration between Munich and the NFL.”

From the league’s side, NFL DACH General Manager Alexander Steinforth underscored Germany’s strategic importance:

“Germany is of huge strategic importance for the NFL in Europe… Munich holds a very special place in the hearts of our fans.”

A Growing NFL Presence Across Europe and Beyond

Munich’s 2026 and 2028 games join a wider slate of confirmed international fixtures as the league continues to broaden its global footprint.
