The single marks Ayra Starr‘s first release of the year, following an incredible 2024 which saw her launch her critically-lauded sophomore album “The Year I Turned 21”, amidst so many new career milestones. The singer-songwriter recently celebrated achieving over 2 BILLION global streams and picked up two 2025 MOBO Award nominations – Best African Music Act and Best International Act.

“The Year I Turned 21”, released last summer with ‘Commas‘ and ‘Last Heartbreak Song‘ (feat. Giveon), earned the biggest opening day streams ever for a Nigerian female artist on Spotify. Further to that, three of the songs made Apple Music’s Top 10 most streamed Afrobeats songs of 2024 list [‘Commas’ at No.2, ‘Last Heartbreak Song’ at No.7 and ‘Bad Vibes’ at No.10]. NME hailed the album as “breathing new life into Afropop… each track radiates a clear vision”, while The Guardian underlined, “the magnetism of Starr’s flow and fire is undeniable”.

After making history as the first Afrobeats artist to perform on Glastonbury’s iconic Pyramid Stage last summer, Ayra Starr made her breathtaking US television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon performing ‘Last Heartbreak Song’ and ‘Woman Commando’, before storming the Today Show stage with Coldplay to perform their collaboration ‘GOOD FEELiNGS’. Showing her ceaseless energy and drive, Starr swiftly went on to open for Coldplay on their Australian and New Zealand stadium dates, bringing her magnetic brand of Afrobeats to thousands of new fans.

Ayra Starr amassed four nominations at the MTV Europe Music Awards last year for Best New, Best Afrobeats, Best African Act and Best Push. She also earned three nominations at the BET Awards for Best New Artist, Best International Act and BET Her, as well as a nomination for Best Afrobeats at the MTV VMAs for the second consecutive year.

With a growing list of sizzling collaborations with artists from different genres; it is clear Ayra Starr brings her culture with her wherever she goes – breaking barriers and creating ‘firsts’ for African artists. Note ‘Santa’, her collaboration with Rvssian and Rauw Alejandro, which has half a billion Spotify streams and an RIAA diamond certification – making her the first Nigerian woman to achieve this.
