UK telecoms giant Vodafone has unveiled a new AI-powered feature designed to tackle the growing threat of scam and nuisance calls, giving customers more control before they even pick up the phone.
The new Scam Call Protection tool is now built into Vodafone’s Secure Net Mobile service, automatically analysing incoming calls in real time and flagging suspicious numbers before users answer.
How Vodafone’s Scam Call Protection Works
Designed to run seamlessly in the background, the feature is integrated directly into the Vodafone network — meaning there’s no need to download additional apps or configure complex settings.
Using artificial intelligence, the system monitors incoming calls and detects unusual behaviour patterns associated with fraud or spam activity. If a number appears high-risk, users will see a clear on-screen warning identifying it as a potential scam call.
This real-time alert gives customers the choice to either answer or decline — putting decision-making firmly back in their hands.
A Growing Need for Smarter Call Security
Scam calls have become increasingly sophisticated in recent years, with fraudsters using tactics like number spoofing and social engineering to trick victims. According to cybersecurity experts, millions of UK residents are targeted every year.
Vodafone’s new feature aims to simplify protection by embedding it directly into its wider security ecosystem, rather than relying on third-party apps.
Part of Vodafone Secure Net Mobile
Scam Call Protection is included within Vodafone’s broader Secure Net Mobile package — a digital security suite that already offers:
- Advanced parental controls
- 24/7 identity monitoring to guard against fraud
- Real-time virus and malware protection
Together, these tools create what Vodafone describes as a “unified defence” across both calls and online activity.
The service is available free for the first three months, before moving to a monthly cost of £2.
Vodafone’s Commitment to Digital Safety
Rob Winterschladen, Consumer Director at VodafoneThree, said the new feature reflects the company’s ongoing push to improve customer security:
“Scam calls are becoming increasingly harder to spot, and it’s easy to feel caught off guard. Scam Call Protection on Vodafone Secure Net Mobile gives customers an extra layer of reassurance — constantly working in the background to monitor calls, and flagging known and suspected scam calls.”
He added that the launch strengthens Vodafone’s mission to help users feel “safer, more informed and more in control of their digital world.”
No Setup Required
One of the standout features is its simplicity — eligible customers don’t need to take any action. Scam Call Protection is automatically activated for all Secure Net Mobile users and begins working immediately.
