Luxury Scotch whisky brand The Balvenie has announced an ambitious new collaboration with acclaimed contemporary artist Daniel Arsham, marking one of the distillery’s most significant creative partnerships to date.
Titled The Dawn of Our Spirit, the collaboration will explore the heritage, artistry and craftsmanship behind The Balvenie through a multi-layered artistic programme created in partnership with the brand’s Malt Master, Kelsey McKechnie.
The partnership will culminate in a remarkable limited-edition whisky collection alongside immersive experiences set to take place across Asia and the United States later this year.
Celebrating The Balvenie’s Five Rare Crafts
At the heart of the collaboration is The Balvenie’s celebrated “Five Rare Crafts” — the traditional processes that define the whisky maker’s identity. These include barley cultivation, the cooperage, the historic malting floor, copper stills and the intuitive expertise of the Malt Master.
The collection will feature an ultra-rare whisky release alongside collectible limited editions, each inspired by and artistically interpreted through Arsham’s signature aesthetic.
A key source of inspiration for the project is The Balvenie’s historic Home Floor Maltings, which has remained largely unchanged since operations began in the early 1930s. The space represents the enduring craftsmanship and heritage that both McKechnie and Arsham aim to celebrate through the collaboration.

A Creative Dialogue Between Whisky and Art
Known for blurring the lines between art, architecture and performance, Arsham’s work frequently explores themes of time, erosion and material transformation — making the partnership with The Balvenie a natural fit.
Speaking about the collaboration, Arsham said:
“Learning of The Balvenie’s time-honoured skills and its dedication to the most traditional methods of making whisky is inspiring. Our collaboration is rooted in a shared respect for both process and time.”
McKechnie also reflected on the partnership, highlighting the shared commitment to artistry and innovation.
“The Balvenie’s approach remains the same today as it always has been; it is a story of artistry, innovation and human endeavour,” she explained. “Our collaboration with Daniel Arsham has become a creative dialogue exploring the enduring character of our spirit.”

Luxury Whisky Meets Contemporary Culture
The collaboration reflects the growing intersection between luxury spirits and contemporary art, as premium whisky brands continue to embrace immersive storytelling and collectible experiences.
By combining centuries-old whisky-making techniques with Arsham’s forward-thinking artistic vision, The Dawn of Our Spirit positions itself as both a celebration of heritage craftsmanship and a modern cultural statement.
The Balvenie says further details surrounding the collection and upcoming experiences will be unveiled later this year.
