A lovable Olde English Bulldogge named Max has become an unlikely local celebrity after repeatedly escaping from home just to visit his chocolate Labrador Retriever “girlfriend,” Harley, who lives next door in Highworth.
The hilarious and heartwarming moments were all captured on a Ring Video Doorbell, showing the determined 46kg bulldog overcoming stair gates, makeshift barriers, and even front doors in his mission to see Harley.

Max and Harley’s Unbreakable Bond
According to Max’s owner Lorraine, the pair first became close when she began looking after Harley while neighbour Kathy Penticost was away on holiday.
“We started to look after Harley when Kathy was on holiday and they just became inseparable,” Lorraine explained. “Max doesn’t like anybody else around Harley. He’s very protective of her.”
The connection between the two dogs has only grown stronger over the past two years. Kathy says Harley instantly reacts whenever Max’s name is mentioned.
“They’re like girlfriend and boyfriend,” she said. “I say to Harley, ‘where’s Max?’ and she stops what she’s doing and goes straight to the front door.”
Lorraine says Max behaves exactly the same way whenever Harley’s name comes up.
Ring Doorbell Footage Shows Max’s Great Escapes
The now-viral clips show Max cleverly navigating barriers before confidently making his way next door. In one particularly funny moment, the bulldog even stops to relieve himself on Kathy’s mobility scooter before heading inside.
Once he reaches the house, Max scratches at the front door until someone lets him in — and then chaos begins.
“It’s chaos,” Kathy laughed. “But the best kind.”
The energetic duo immediately start chasing each other around the bungalow, jumping everywhere and turning the house upside down.
Lorraine’s Hilarious Chase Attempts
While Max appears perfectly calm during his escape missions, Lorraine is usually not far behind — often rushing down the road trying to retrieve him.
“There have been times when I’ve been seriously caught out,” she joked. “I’ve just got out of the shower and I’ve still got a towel on my head, and you just see me running down the road.”
Neighbours in the area have now become used to seeing Lorraine following Max with a lead in hand, already knowing exactly where he’s headed.
How Ring Helped Capture the Viral Dog Moments
Kathy originally installed her Ring Video Doorbell for a very personal reason during her recovery from breast cancer.
“I mainly got it so I could see who was at the door and tell them to give me a minute to get up from my chair,” she explained. “I’m so glad I had it, it’s caught everything.”
The footage has since become a charming example of how smart home devices can unexpectedly capture memorable everyday moments.

Max’s Escapes May Be Over — But The Friendship Isn’t
To stop further breakouts, Lorraine now keeps a closer eye on Max outdoors and uses a 50-foot training lead to stop him wandering off.
Still, it seems nothing can weaken the bond between the two canine companions.
The story has also strengthened the friendship between the neighbours themselves.
“We knew each other just to say hello to,” Lorraine said. “But our friendship is built on the dogs, basically.”
