Londoners can celebrate the UK’s historically most common birthday with free cake, freshly whisked matcha, goodie bags and a giant birthday installation on the South Bank.
Birthday celebrations are about to get a whole lot bigger, as PerfectTed prepares to throw a giant free birthday party in London – complete with cake, matcha and plenty of giveaways.
Taking place at Observation Point on London’s South Bank on Thursday 24 September 2026, the celebration will put the spotlight on 26 September, a date historically identified as one of the most popular birthdays in England and Wales.
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), 26 September was the most popular date to be born over the 1995–2014 period, with an average of around 2,000 births recorded on the day. More recent ONS data shows that the most common birth date can vary from year to year, but late September continues to be a particularly popular period for birthdays.
Now, PerfectTed is turning that birthday statistic into an excuse for a huge London celebration.
Free Cake, Matcha and Birthday Goodie Bags
The PerfectTed birthday party will take over Observation Point from 11am to 6pm, with visitors able to drop by for free treats and a first taste of the brand’s upcoming Birthday Cake Matcha.
Guests can expect freshly whisked matcha, Lola’s bento cakes and cupcakes, PerfectTed goodie bags and a giant birthday cake installation overlooking the Thames.
And if you were actually born on 26 September, there’s an even bigger birthday surprise waiting.
The first 100 guests who can prove their birthday falls on 26 September will receive a whole bento birthday cake from Lola’s, alongside a PerfectTed birthday gift set containing a matcha bowl, whisk and pouch of Birthday Cake Matcha.
The bundle is worth £50 and, fittingly, will be completely free.
For everyone else, there’s still plenty to get excited about. The first 400 visitors will receive a Lola’s and PerfectTed goodie bag, including a pouch of the brand’s new Birthday Cake-flavoured matcha powder.
First Taste of PerfectTed’s Birthday Cake Matcha
The event also gives matcha fans the chance to try PerfectTed’s new Birthday Cake Matcha before its official supermarket launch.
The new ceremonial-grade matcha latte powder combines PerfectTed’s signature matcha with nostalgic birthday cake-inspired flavours, creating a sweeter twist on the increasingly popular matcha drink.
Visitors will be able to enjoy the new drink freshly whisked and free of charge while stocks last, ahead of its arrival in Sainsbury’s from 28 September.
PerfectTed has continued to expand its range of matcha powders, lattes and energy drinks, with the brand describing its matcha as high-quality and ceremonial grade. You can explore the full range on the official PerfectTed website.

PerfectTed Celebrates Five Years
The birthday bash isn’t just about September birthdays. The event will also mark PerfectTed’s fifth birthday, celebrating five years since the brand launched.
Since then, PerfectTed has grown into one of the UK’s most recognisable matcha brands, including making an appearance on Dragons’ Den in 2023.
The company’s co-founder, Marisa Poster, said the fifth anniversary felt like the perfect opportunity to bring the brand’s community together.
“Turning five is such a special moment for PerfectTed, and we wanted to celebrate it in a way that feels completely us: big, joyful and centred around bringing people together,” Poster said.
“This event is all about saying thank you to everyone who’s been part of the journey so far, and what better way to do that than with cake, matcha and a huge party in London?”
