Fans of The X-Files are about to get a new way to believe. The LEGO Group has officially unveiled the LEGO Ideas The X-Files (21369) set, a detailed 1,478-piece recreation of some of the most iconic locations and characters from the legendary sci-fi series.
To celebrate the launch, Emmy Award-winning actress Gillian Anderson has stepped back into the role of FBI Special Agent Dana Scully for a cinematic promotional mini-film that sees her investigating the mystery behind the new set before ultimately discovering it brick by brick.
The reveal marks another major addition to LEGO’s growing range of pop-culture collectibles aimed at adult builders and television enthusiasts.
Gillian Anderson Returns to the World of The X-Files
More than two decades after helping make The X-Files a global phenomenon, Anderson reprises her connection to the franchise in a new promotional video created for the launch.
The mini-film pays tribute to the series’ signature mystery-filled storytelling while showcasing the set’s intricate details and references to the beloved show.
Anderson said:
“I didn’t expect to be stepping back into Scully’s heels to investigate a LEGO set… it has been so much fun revisiting that world all these years later.”
She added that the set is packed with references long-time fans will immediately recognise and praised the opportunity for fans to recreate their own paranormal investigations at home.
What’s Included in the LEGO Ideas The X-Files Set?
The set centres around a detailed recreation of Fox Mulder’s office, one of the most recognisable locations from the television series.
Alongside the office build, fans can construct:
- A forest clearing scene
- A hovering UFO display
- Multiple interconnected display options
- Hidden references and Easter eggs from the show
The model includes eight minifigures:
- Fox Mulder
- Dana Scully
- Walter Skinner
- Mr. X
- Alex Krycek
- Carl Busch
- The Flukeman
- A Grey Alien
The set is also packed with fan-favourite references, including:
- “The Truth Is Out There” signage
- Mulder’s famous “I Want to Believe” poster
- X-Files case files
- Sunflower seeds referencing Mulder’s habit from the show
- Pencils lodged in the office ceiling
Builders can display the office opened up to reveal interior details or partially disassembled to showcase individual sections. Meanwhile, the UFO can be mounted on a transparent stand to create the illusion of flight above the forest scene.
From Fan Submission to Official LEGO Set
Like all LEGO Ideas releases, the set began life as a fan concept.
The project was created by Brisbane-based 3D artist Brent Waller, who originally designed Mulder’s office as a personal project while rewatching The X-Files. His submission was later entered into the LEGO Ideas platform, where community support helped it progress toward becoming an official release.
Waller explained that he wanted to capture the nostalgia and atmosphere of the series through a combination of detailed environments, storytelling elements and memorable characters.
The LEGO Ideas programme allows fans to submit their own concepts, which are then voted on by the community before potentially being selected for production as official LEGO products.
