JAŸ-Z IN 8, the new eight-part documentary series exploring the life, lyrics and creative process of music icon JAŸ-Z, is coming exclusively to MUBI in the UK from 19 September 2026.
Directed by legendary producer Rick Rubin, the series offers an intimate look at JAŸ-Z’s career through a series of candid conversations between the two creative heavyweights. The first two episodes will premiere on Saturday, 19 September, with two new chapters arriving each Saturday until the series concludes on 10 October.
JAŸ-Z and Rick Rubin Explore a Musical Legacy
Produced under Rubin’s Tetragrammaton banner, JAŸ-Z IN 8 takes viewers through the rapper’s extensive back catalogue, using his music as a starting point to explore the experiences, influences and ideas that have shaped his career.
Across eight episodes, JAŸ-Z breaks down his approach to songwriting, examining how his lyrics have been influenced by his childhood, personal experiences and the changing world around him.
The series marks Rick Rubin’s directorial documentary debut, bringing together two hugely influential figures in modern music for an extended conversation about creativity and artistic evolution.
Executive produced by Shawn Carter and Rick Rubin, the documentary aims to show the close relationship between JAŸ-Z’s life and the music he has created throughout his career.

UK viewers will be able to watch JAŸ-Z IN 8 exclusively on MUBI from 19 September 2026.

Each chapter takes a song-by-song approach to JAŸ-Z’s catalogue, with Rubin curating tracks that help guide the conversation.
The opening two episodes feature tracks including “Can’t Knock The Hustle”, “What More Can I Say”, “Brooklyn’s Finest” and “I Love The Dough”, while later chapters explore songs such as “4:44”, “Where I’m From”, “U Don’t Know”, “99 Problems”, “The Story Of O.J.”, “Family Feud” and “Legacy”.
The documentary’s extensive playlist provides a career-spanning journey through some of JAŸ-Z’s most recognisable work, while giving audiences insight into the stories and creative decisions behind the music.
A Career-Spanning Conversation
Rather than simply revisiting JAŸ-Z’s biggest hits, JAŸ-Z IN 8 focuses on the creative process behind them. Rubin’s conversations with the rapper explore his influences, formative experiences and approach to innovation, offering fans a closer look at the person behind the music.
The series is produced by Tetragrammaton, with a creative team including producers Leila Mattimore and David Rohde, co-producers Harlin Lawal and Will Mavronicolas, and director of photography Bradford Young.
The editing team consists of Walter Fasano and Christian Sandino-Taylor.
MUBI has acquired worldwide rights to the series excluding North America, where HBO will release the documentary.
