Last month, one of the leading automotive companies made its way into a different sporting sector.
McLaren, which is a British automotive company and one of the premier Formula 1 teams, launched McLaren Golf. The company announced that its first professional golf partner was Justin Rose, the 2013 U.S. Open champion. It also partnered with retired LPGA star Michelle Wie West, who came out of retirement to compete with the clubs at the Mizuho America’s Open in early May and will play the U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally next week.
Rose debuted his new McLaren clubs at the Cadillac Championship held from 30 April to 3 May. He finished tied for 65th place with a score of 2 over par for the four-day tournament in Miami, Florida, the same weekend as the F1 Miami Grand Prix, where two McLaren drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, placed second and third, respectively.
“It’s something I’ve been involved with from the outset — really helping the engineering team, really testing the very first editions of the club,” Rose said before the Cadillac Championship. “I’ve been kind of working with the project for well over a year, probably. It’s been exciting to, this week, finally launch it.”
Rose, who won the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open in February, has seen a dip in his play in recent weeks. After his tied-for-65th-place finish at the Cadillac Championship, Rose finished tied for 45th at the Truist Championship but bounced back with a top-10 finish at the PGA Championship, the second of four major championships on the men’s side.
The 45-year-old Englishman insisted that his two-week dip in play wasn’t because of his brand-new irons.
“The testing process is an interesting one. You go through it, but not until you put something in play do you kind of have the time or the real ability to get comfortable with it,” Rose said before his T-10 at the PGA Championship.“So, yeah, it might take a little bit of time to get fully, fully, fully comfortable just looking at something different, but yeah, it’s been a very measured approach and something I’m very excited about and something I’ve really, really enjoyed doing.”
McLaren is selling its irons to the public on its website. Both the Series 1 and Series 3 irons are £360 per club. The website says that the Series 1 irons emphasize workability, while the Series 3 irons are for distance along with forgiveness.
