If you’ve ever argued about whether garlic sauce beats chilli sauce or questioned someone for eating a kebab with a knife and fork, you’re not alone.
To celebrate World Kebab Day on 10 July, German Doner Kebab (GDK) is launching a week-long celebration packed with half-price mains, quirky public debates and new research revealing where Britain’s biggest kebab fans live.
Running from 6–12 July, World Kebab Week will see customers enjoy 50% off all main dishes across participating UK restaurants for dine-in and takeaway, giving fans the perfect excuse to indulge in one of the nation’s favourite fast-food treats.
London Crowned The UK’s Biggest Kebab-Loving City
According to new research commissioned by GDK, London tops the list as Britain’s number one city for kebab lovers.
The top five cities are:
- London
- Manchester
- Birmingham
- Glasgow
- Liverpool
The findings come from a survey of 2,000 UK adults, highlighting just how deeply the doner kebab has become part of British food culture.
Gen Z Is Redefining The Kebab
The survey also suggests that younger diners are changing the way people think about kebabs.
More than half of Gen Z respondents admitted they’re bored of the same lunchtime options, with 42% saying they’d most often choose a doner kebab for lunch, compared with just over 20% who would opt for a supermarket meal deal.
Even more telling, 47% said they enjoy eating kebabs while completely sober, challenging the long-standing stereotype that kebabs are only reserved for late-night post-pub cravings.
Meanwhile:
- 39% believe the kebab has had a major “glow-up” in recent years.
- One in three said they’d happily go on a kebab date.
The results suggest kebabs are increasingly viewed as an everyday meal rather than just a guilty pleasure.
The UK’s sauciest kebab debates
Ahead of World Kebab Week, GDK took its celebrations to Camden Market, where it opened its interactive GDK Phone Box.
Visitors were invited to confess their hottest kebab opinions, including questions such as:
- Would you trust someone who eats a kebab with a knife and fork?
- What’s the biggest kebab red flag?
- Which sauce should be banned forever?
- What’s the most extreme thing you’ve done for a kebab?
Those brave enough to share their opinions were rewarded with a free GDK OG Kebab and exclusive merchandise.
It’s the latest example of the brand tapping into Britain’s love of debating food etiquette—especially when it comes to everyone’s favourite late-night meal.
Enjoy 50% off GDK mains during World Kebab Week
To mark the occasion, German Doner Kebab is offering 50% off all main menu items from 6–12 July 2026.
The promotion includes favourites such as:
- OG Kebab
- OG Jr
- Doner Wrap
- Doner Burrito
- Doner Quesadilla
- Plant-based and vegetarian mains
The offer is available for dine-in and takeaway at participating UK restaurants, although standard terms and conditions apply.
Why The Humble Kebab Continues To Evolve
Once viewed primarily as a late-night takeaway, the kebab has undergone a noticeable transformation over the past decade. Premium ingredients, healthier menu options and modern restaurant concepts have helped brands like German Doner Kebab introduce the dish to a much wider audience.
The latest research suggests younger consumers are embracing kebabs as an everyday lunch, dinner and even date-night option—proving the UK’s appetite for the iconic dish is only continuing to grow.
