Formula 1 memorabilia has entered a new era. Forget replica helmets or signed caps. Velo’s latest collectables project, created alongside McLaren, is built around something far more authentic: genuine engineering components taken directly from the MCL36 McLaren Mastercard Formula 1® team car driven by Lando Norris, each one individually signed by the current world champion himself.
As part of The Ultimate Velo x McLaren Mastercard Formula 1® Team London Experience at Future Stores, Velo and the McLaren unveiled five original parts from the McLaren MCL36 car driven by Lando Norris, transforming hidden pieces of race engineering into unique collector’s items.
What makes the collection fascinating is that these are not glamorous headline pieces usually associated with motorsport displays. Instead, the project focuses on the unseen architecture of Formula 1; the components buried beneath the bodywork that quietly influences how a car performs on track.
Each piece tells a story about how performance is actually created. One of the standout items is the titanium floor skate edge used on the 2022 McLaren MCL36 car during Formula 1’s major ground-effect regulation reset. Positioned millimetres from the asphalt, the component played a crucial role in controlling airflow beneath the car, helping generate the aerodynamic grip that defined a new era of car design.
Another collectable comes from deep within the fuel system architecture: a titanium fuel system pump mounting designed to withstand relentless G-forces while securing the engine’s fuel delivery under extreme racing conditions.
There is also a fuel system collector bung — a deceptively small aluminium component that ensured uninterrupted fuel flow through every corner, curb strike and full-throttle acceleration zone throughout the season.
Perhaps the most visually technical piece is the brake duct cooling interface, manufactured using advanced titanium processes to direct airflow toward brake systems capable of exceeding 1,000 degrees Celsius under heavy braking. During a race, cooling is performance, and this component existed at the centre of that battle.
Completing the collection is a suspension shim used to fine-tune the MCL36 car suspension geometry circuit-by-circuit during the 2022 campaign, the kind of microscopic adjustment that can define the balance and behaviour of a Formula 1 car across an entire race weekend.
Individually, they are engineering objects. Together, they become something closer to industrial art.
And crucially for collectors, every single piece has been signed by Lando Norris, adding a direct connection between the physical machinery and one of Formula most influential 1’s modern drivers.
The collection reflects a broader shift happening within motorsport culture. Fans no longer simply want merchandise; they want proximity to the sport itself. They want objects with provenance, history and physical connection to the racing world they follow every weekend.
That authenticity is what makes these collectables feel different.
Alongside the signed components, the activation also includes “The Sound of Speed,” a limited-edition vinyl experience built entirely from the sounds of McLaren Mastercard Formula 1® Team – Everything from pit lane mechanics to screaming engines t. Only 120 editions are being produced.
The collectables were displayed at Future Stores from 15–21 June as part of The Ultimate Velo x McLaren Mastercard Formula 1® Team London Experience, which also featured a official McLaren Mastercard Formula 1® Team replica showcar, racing simulators and fan competitions.
