Flock Together Presents ‘Your Stage’, supported by Timberland, a spoken word filmed performance showcasing new ways to experience the outdoors and connecting people of colour (POC) with nature. Flock Together is a birdwatching collective for POC, reclaiming green spaces and rebuilding their relationship with nature – one walk at a time.
‘Your Stage’ introduces spoken word artists Anu Balofin, Ade Oyejobi and Jayda David, who challenge society’s narrative in relation to POC in nature and bring the conversation to new heights.
The artists present nature through spoken word to highlight the benefits of the great outdoors to a new audience while bridging the worlds of poetry and nature. Flock Together believe that creativity and innovation can solve society’s challenges and led by Founder and CEO Ollie Olanipekun (founder of award-winning agencies Superimpose / Futurimpose), are developing creative connections between under-supported people and nature.
The discovery of the mental health benefits nature provides also plays a prominent role in the narrative, and the film project explores the variety of natural environments across London’s iconic Trent Park.
“Nature is a universal resource and for too long Black, Brown and other POC have felt unwelcome and marginalised in spaces that should be open to everyone. At Flock Together, our focus is on supporting our community and challenging existing preconceptions that are a barrier to POC experiencing nature’s benefits. ‘Your Stage’, will provide a new take on the natural experience and a new route to enjoying the outdoors”, Ollie Olanipekun, Founder & CEO, Flock Together
Nature is a universal resource, a space to heal which does not discriminate. With a shared mission, Flock Together, supported by Timberland, aim to break barriers and encourage those from marginalised communities into the great outdoors.
