Following the release of her ninth studio album, Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, 2023 has become Lana Del Rey’s biggest year to date for recorded music.
Having secured her sixth UK No. 1 Album for Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, Del Rey’s seminal album has become the 10th best selling album of the year (released this year) and the third biggest selling vinyl of the year. 2023 also saw Lana Del Rey become the 10th most streamed artist globally on Spotify this year, and Ocean Blvd provided Del Rey with her strongest opening week in nearly a decade since Ultraviolence in 2014. Since its release, Ocean Blvd has sold 1.4 million adjusted units globally.
Dubbed “the greatest American songwriter of the 21st century” by Rolling Stone UK and spotlighted as being “poised to become the most memorable artist of a generation” by The Sunday Times, Lana Del Rey is without a doubt one of the world’s biggest and critically acclaimed artists.
In the end of the year round-ups, The Sunday Times and Time Out awarded Ocean Blvd as the #1 Album Of The Year, and The Guardian, Pitchfork, and NME placed ‘A&W’ – the second single released from her new album – as the #1 Song Of The Year. Elsewhere in other lists, Ocean Blvd was placed #23 in NME, #37 in Crack, #14 in PopBuzz, and it was included in the unranked GQ Albums Of The Year list. ‘A&W’ also scored at #9 in i-D’s Songs Of The Year list.
Elsewhere across Lana Del Rey’s catalogue, ‘Young And Beautiful’ and ‘Summertime Sadness’ have both reached 1 billion streams on Spotify, the first of Del Rey’s songs to reach this milestone. She has also now accumulated over 50 million adjusted global album sales (4.3 million in the UK), and 75 billion global streams (over 3.2 billion in the UK). Further, 25 billion of the streams across her catalogue are from 2023 alone.
The new album was co-produced by Lana Del Rey alongside Mike Hermosa, Jack Antonoff, Drew Erickson, Zach Dawes, and Benji, and includes features from Jon Batiste, Bleachers, Father John Misty, Judah Smith, Tommy Genesis, and SYML.
