CLEMENTINE CAFÉ BY ANNA HIGHAM TO OPEN IN ISLINGTON THIS OCTOBER!

Quince Bakery founder Anna Higham is bringing her much-loved British baking and seasonal cooking to a new all-day café in Islington this October.

After building a loyal following at Quince Bakery, pastry chef Anna Higham is opening Clementine, a new 20-cover café directly opposite the bakery on New North Road.

Opening on Saturday 3 October 2026, Clementine will serve breakfast, brunch and lunch from Wednesday to Sunday, bringing the community-focused spirit of Quince into a new all-day dining space.

Clementine Café Brings British Cooking to Islington

Since opening in February 2024, Quince Bakery has become a favourite among London food lovers, with queues regularly stretching down the road at weekends.

Clementine is the natural next step for Anna Higham, offering a sit-down setting where guests can enjoy the same focus on British produce, seasonal ingredients and traditional baking.

The autumn menu will change throughout the year, with dishes designed to showcase British ingredients and comforting flavours.

Breakfast will include porridge with Ivy House cream, panela sugar and apple compote, tattie scones with scrambled Cacklebean eggs, Scotch pancakes with Abbey Farm butter and poached plums, and Staffordshire oatcakes served with Gothelney Farm bacon and Appleby’s Cheshire cheese.

There will also be a Clementine sausage sandwich, made using bespoke sausages from local butcher Stella’s. The sausages are made with Quince Bakery breadcrumbs and quince paste before being served in Quince’s Batch bread with homemade brown sauce.

From Scones to Chicken and Tarragon Pie

Quince Bakery’s much-loved baking will also make the journey across the road.

For elevenses, diners can expect warm scones with Ivy House cream and jam, alongside Clementine’s signature brown butter buns.

The lunch menu will feature a Westcombe Dairy cheddar toastie, chicken and tarragon pie, late-summer vegetable soup and a traditional Ploughman’s lunch featuring Kirkham’s Lancashire cheese, Gothelney ham, pickles and country bread.

For something sweet in the afternoon, the café will serve treats including oat cookies and figgy meringue cake, alongside more of its freshly baked scones.

The drinks menu will feature coffee from Allpress and Red Bank, while a selection of seasonal cordials will include combinations such as fragola grape and damson, and peach and fig leaf.

Tea lovers can also expect a selection from Postcard Teas, including a special Clementine blend created exclusively for the café.

Meet Clementine’s Head Chef

Leading the Clementine kitchen will be Marcus Westlake, who joins from Forno and has previously worked at east London restaurant Brawn.

Westlake brings experience in both bakery and produce-led cooking and will work closely with Anna Higham on the menu before taking the reins as head chef.

Higham says Clementine is intended to build on the community that has grown around Quince Bakery.

“The goal at Clementine is to continue the community feel we have built at Quince Bakery with a similarly joyful and creative menu.”

She adds that the café will retain Quince’s focus on British traditions and working closely with its suppliers.

Inside Clementine Café

Clementine’s interiors have been created by Dan Wilson Studio, the team behind the design of Quince Bakery.

The space draws inspiration from Shaker design and the Arts and Crafts movement, combining oak, slate worktops and a tiled fireplace to create a warm, homely atmosphere.

Carpentry has been completed by Herb Palmer, whose work includes Quince, Brawn and Tiella, while the walls feature a bespoke colour developed with British paint brand Atelier Ellis.

Outside, Clementine will be instantly recognisable thanks to its clementine leaf green façade, clementine-coloured awning and a lit fibreglass clementine above the entrance.

A Café Built With Community Support

Clementine’s opening has also been backed by the community that helped establish Quince Bakery.

Earlier this year, Quince launched a crowdfunding campaign which raised more than £30,000 towards fitting out the new café. It followed the bakery’s original crowdfunding appeal in 2023, highlighting the strong local support behind Anna Higham’s businesses.

With its combination of seasonal British cooking, Quince Bakery favourites and a cosy new setting, Clementine looks set to become another destination for food lovers exploring Islington.
