Ariana Grande has officially brought her highly anticipated Eternal Sunshine Tour to London, delivering two sold-out nights at The O2 and welcoming a very special guest in the form of Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo.
After more than six years away from the stage, Ariana Grande has made a spectacular return to London, kicking off the UK leg of her Eternal Sunshine Tour with two sold-out shows at The O2.
The pop superstar performed to around 40,000 fans across the opening weekend, marking her first UK concerts in seven years and the beginning of a huge 10-night residency at the London venue.
The opening shows on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August showcased Grande’s biggest hits alongside tracks from her latest musical era, with critics praising the singer’s vocals, ambitious staging and cinematic approach to live performance.
Ariana Grande Returns to the London Stage
Grande opened the show with yes, and?, immediately launching into a set packed with fan favourites including positions, thank u, next, 7 rings, One Last Time, Rain On Me, Break Free, Dangerous Woman and Into You.
The five-act production takes inspiration from the visual world surrounding Eternal Sunshine and the Brighter Days Ahead short film, creating a theatrical concert experience that moves between dreamlike visuals, choreography and Grande’s famously powerful vocals.
The production sees Grande joined by a 12-member dance crew and live band, with the show directed by longtime collaborator Christian Breslauer.
Critics were quick to praise the London performances. The Times, Metro, The Telegraph, NME and Rolling Stone UK all awarded the show five stars, with the BBC praising Grande’s enormous vocal range.
The Guardian also awarded the concert four stars, describing the performance as grand, sincere and packed with songs big enough to fill The O2.
Cynthia Erivo Joins Ariana Grande for a Wicked Reunion
Sunday night’s performance delivered one of the weekend’s biggest surprises when Grande welcomed Cynthia Erivo to the stage.
The pair, who famously played Glinda and Elphaba in the Wicked films, reunited for a performance of For Good, before launching into a Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again medley.
The surprise appearance gave fans a memorable Wicked reunion and quickly became one of the standout moments of Grande’s London residency.
Grande and Erivo’s onstage chemistry was met with huge cheers from the sold-out audience, adding an extra layer of theatrical magic to an already visually spectacular show.
