Formula 1 star Charles Leclerc is swapping the racetrack for the chessboard as he prepares to take on world-renowned grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura in a unique battle of strategy, skill and mastery.
The showdown will take place on 1 September 2026 at the Chivas Regal Arena of Mastery, where Leclerc and Nakamura will go head-to-head over SE!ZE, a bespoke chess-inspired game co-created by the Ferrari driver alongside his signature whisky, Chivas Regal 16.

Following the launch of Chivas Regal 16, Leclerc is continuing his partnership with the whisky brand by challenging one of the biggest names in chess.
Nakamura, a five-time US Chess Champion and one of the world’s leading grandmasters, is currently ranked among the world’s top active players by FIDE.
Rather than a traditional chess match, the pair will compete in SE!ZE, bringing together the calculated decision-making of chess with the high-pressure mentality associated with Formula 1.
The concept reflects the thinking behind Chivas Regal 16, with both competitors expected to adapt quickly, make strategic decisions and capitalise on every opportunity.
Chivas Regal 16 Meets the World of F1
Leclerc’s collaboration with Chivas Regal has already seen the Formula 1 driver take a hands-on role in creating the limited-edition whisky.
Inspired by his iconic racing number, Chivas Regal 16 combines 16 whiskies, each aged for at least 16 years, creating the brand’s first 16-year-old blend. The whisky has been developed around Leclerc’s personal tastes, with Longmorn single malt at its heart.
The collaboration builds on Chivas Regal’s wider partnership with Leclerc, who was named the brand’s Global Brand Ambassador as part of a multi-year collaboration exploring his interests away from the racetrack.
Leclerc’s connection to the number 16 is particularly fitting. The Monegasque driver races for Scuderia Ferrari HP as car number 16 and recently agreed a new multi-year deal to remain with Ferrari.
