As Mexico prepares to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, the rest of the world is getting in on the action by ordering Mexican dishes. Last year, Uber Eats saw its customers order Mexican food 8% more in May compared to the average month, suggesting that people are continuing the Cinco de Mayo festivities well past the day itself.

This year, Cinco de Mayo falls on a Tuesday.  What started as an American custom, #TacoTuesday has grown in popularity abroad, with international celebrities including LeBron James, Selena Gomez, and the Kardashians repping the dish and tradition.

Uber Eats data from the UK has found that taco orders peak at 118% higher on Tuesdays compared to the rest of the week. And on Cinco de Mayo in particular, orders jump by 42%, meaning there’s double the reason to order a taco on 5th May this year.

Spain proves to be home to the biggest taco superfan, with one customer ordering an unbelievable 56 tacos in one sitting. This was followed by South Africa (54 tacos), UK (53 tacos), Sweden (47 tacos) and France (46 tacos).

When it comes to the hotly contested question of filling, beef taco lovers are now winning out, while chicken comes in a close second. However, Brits have a taste for less traditional taco fillings too, with BBQ jackfruit and hot chorizo also making the top five.
