Ahead of one of football’s biggest rivalries, Under Armour and FC Barcelona stars Fermín López and Marc Casadó traded the football pitch for one of Catalonia’s most iconic traditions ahead of El Clásico.
The two La Masia graduates joined the Arreplegats de la Zona Universitària in Barcelona to help build a towering seven-story Castell — a traditional Catalan human tower that symbolises unity, resilience and collective strength.
FC Barcelona’s Rising Stars Step Into Catalan Culture
With tensions building ahead of the latest showdown between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF, the activation highlighted the pressure and pride that comes with representing one of football’s most historic clubs.
The Castell tradition has existed for more than 200 years and remains deeply rooted in Catalan identity. Constructed from the ground up, each tower relies on teamwork and trust, values that closely mirror life inside Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy.
At the foundation of every Castell is the “Pinya” — a tightly packed base that supports those climbing above. It’s a role without individual recognition, but one that makes the entire structure possible.
Fermín López Reflects on Pressure and Teamwork
Speaking about the experience, Fermín López explained how the tradition resonates with his football journey.
“The pressure is real, but it is shared. The people at the bottom carry those at the top. That has been my reality from La Masia to the first team. Football is a collective effort, much like being a Casteller. Success is entirely dependent on unity, trust, and the strength of the person standing next to you.”
The midfielder’s comments reflect the growing expectations placed on Barcelona’s emerging generation as the club continues its push for domestic success in Spain.
Marc Casadó Says Representing Barcelona Is “A Privilege”
Marc Casadó, who grew up near Barcelona in Sant Pere de Vilamajor, described the experience as a reminder of the club’s cultural roots.
“In Catalonia, pressure isn’t something to fear, it’s a privilege. There is no greater honour than carrying the hopes of this club. Being among the Castellers was a reminder that our strength comes from our roots and our dedication to each other. It’s that same unity we take into El Clásico.”
The campaign places Barcelona’s younger stars at the centre of a wider celebration of Catalan identity, connecting football with one of the region’s most recognisable cultural traditions.
Under Armour Unveils Shadow Elite 4 Boots
As official athletes for Under Armour, both players — alongside teammate Ferran Torres — will wear the brand’s latest football boot, the Under Armour Shadow Elite 4, during El Clásico.
Designed for explosiveness and rapid acceleration, the boots feature a cushioned base intended to help players maintain comfort and responsiveness under pressure.
