With less than 40 days left until Bahrain testing, we have about 10 weeks to prepare for the upcoming 2024 Formula One season. In the following weeks, we will discuss what you can expect from each team for the next season.
The 2024 season is set to be exciting, with each team striving to close the gap to Red Bull in the coming year. Today, we look at Aston Martin.
As the 2023 Formula 1 season ended, the team found themselves in fifth place with a respectable 280 points. Despite the challenges they faced throughout the season, the team managed to secure a total of eight podium finishes. With their eyes set firmly on the future, the team is already planning ways to improve their performance for the 2024 season.
The Drivers
Fernando Alonso
After a successful 2023 season, Alonso will continue racing with the team in 2024. In an interview with Formula One, Alonso shared his enthusiasm for the season, saying,
“I’m really pleased with the way I’ve driven all season – I think this has been my best, most consistent season of driving since 2012. I think I got the maximum from the car all season.”
During the 2023 season, Alonso amassed 206 points for the team and finished fourth overall in the drivers’ championship.
Lance Stroll
Stroll will return for his fourth season with the team, bringing in seventy-four points for the team in the 2023 season. Just 12 days before the start of the 2023 season, Stroll was involved in a cycling injury that resulted in him needing surgery on his wrist. Stoll was able to come back from this injury and even placed 10th in the driver’s championship, five places higher than his previous season.
Felipe Drugovich
Felipe Drugovich, the 2022 Formula Two Champion, has been confirmed to continue his role as the test and reserve driver for the upcoming year. The Brazilian driver gained significant experience during the 2023 season, as he drove the AMR23 in the first session of the 2023 Bahrain testing as well as in the first free practice session of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack speaks highly of Drugovich, telling Motorsport.com “Every time he gets behind the wheel, we clearly see the strength of his contribution. His pace, feedback and commitment are all extremely valuable to our engineers.”
Team Principal Mike Krack
Krack will return as team principal in 2024. In a recent interview with Aston Martin F1, Krack shared his thoughts on the 2023 season, saying:
“That I want everyone to be thinking positive thoughts as they go into their holidays. What everyone – and I really do mean everyone – has achieved this year has been exceptional, and they should be proud of their contribution. There have been a lot of high points this year – a couple of lows too, but mostly highs – and we should not forget what we have achieved: where we are now, compared to where we were. It has been a significant step in our journey but there is still a lot to be done.”
Be sure to come back next week as we look into what we can expect from AlphaTauri in the 2024 season.
