TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR STADIUM TO HOST SPECIAL SCREENING OF ACCLAIMED PLAY ‘DEAR ENGLAND’

Screening of Dear England at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will host a special screening of Dear England, the celebrated play by James Graham examining the nation’s relationship with football. The event is open to the public and will take place on Thursday 25 January, with an exclusive guided tour of the stadium included in the price of the ticket.

The screening follows a collaboration between Tottenham Hotspur and National Theatre Live, which forms part of the Club’s wider drive to create a sport, leisure and entertainment destination in London, embracing the arts and culture.

As well as hosting a wide range of major events, including concerts, all year round, the stadium is also the first to house a contemporary art gallery, with OOF having taken residence in Warmington House since 2021, delivering football-themed exhibitions from contemporary artists including Sarah Lucas, Martin Parr and Hank Willis Thomas.

There are also plans for the development of a vibrant cultural quarter, PAXTON17, which is already home to the Sarabande Foundation and will include the arrival of further arts and culture organisations building on Tottenham’s reputation for producing some of the most prominent artists in the music industry today, fundamental to the London grime scene.

In October 2022, Tottenham Hotspur joined forces with Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), Britain’s leading theatre company, to bring world-class theatre engagement to young people in the London Borough of Haringey with the launch of West End in Tottenham.

The programme offered a series of workshops to young people aged 11-18 years old to celebrate London’s arts and culture and put the voices of N17 centre stage. Participants from the West End in Tottenham programme were among the attendees of a special community screening of the play which took place at the Stadium last week.

Young people participating in performing arts programmes at Jackson’s Lane, Haringey ShedMillfield Theatre and the London Academy of Excellence attended the screening which included a pre-show Q&A with actor Will Fletcher and sound designer Dan Balfour.

Dear England offers insight into the psychology of Gareth Southgate’s England team in the lead up to the 2018 World Cup, and beyond, with renowned British actor Joseph Fiennes playing the part of Southgate. It goes deep into the psyche of not just England’s star players, but also the fans that watch the beautiful game.

The guided Stadium Tour begins at 18:00 in the Tottenham Experience with the screening starting at 19:30 in the Tottenham Hotspur Press Auditorium. The event is likely to run until 22:30 at the latest with an interval in-between.
