Situated in Circus West Village beside the Grade II* listed Battersea Power Station, The Hero’s Return joins the growing collection of restaurants, bars and leisure venues that continue to transform the riverside destination into one of London’s busiest lifestyle hubs. Battersea Power Station now features more than 170 shops, restaurants, bars and entertainment venues, having welcomed over 40 million visitors since reopening in 2022.
A Modern British Pub Inspired by Battersea’s History
Rather than creating another gastropub, The Hero’s Return has been designed as a celebration of British hospitality while embracing the area’s industrial and musical legacy.
Its name comes from Pink Floyd’s 1983 song The Hero’s Return, a subtle nod to the band’s longstanding association with Battersea Power Station following the unforgettable cover artwork for their 1977 album Animals. The venue aims to blend classic London pub traditions with a distinctly South London character.
Positioned along the Thames, guests can expect one of central London’s few genuine riverside pub terraces, with space for around 40 diners overlooking the river—ideal for summer lunches, evening drinks and sunset views.
Inside, the design combines traditional pub features including timber finishes, open fireplaces, warm lighting and intimate dining spaces with contemporary industrial touches that reflect the surrounding architecture.
Jonathan Woolway Brings St. JOHN Experience to the Kitchen
Heading up the kitchen is Jonathan Woolway, who spent 17 years working at acclaimed British restaurant St. JOHN alongside Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver.
The menu focuses on seasonal British produce with ingredient-led cooking that highlights traditional flavours through modern techniques.
Signature dishes expected to feature include:
- Grilled mackerel with rainbow chard and horseradish
- Ox heart served with hand-cut chips and peppercorn sauce
- Cold roast Gower lamb with celeriac remoulade and pickled walnut
The emphasis throughout will be on high-quality British ingredients served in an approachable neighbourhood setting.

While Battersea Power Station has become a major London destination for tourists, The Hero’s Return hopes to establish itself as a genuine local pub.
Managing Director Toni Morris-Ditty said the venue reflects everything that makes the Power Station unique, combining London’s industrial heritage with exceptional food, drinks and hospitality.
Restaurant Director Julia Wilkinson from Battersea Power Station Development Company added that the venue captures the creative spirit that has defined the site’s regeneration, complementing the neighbourhood’s growing mix of restaurants, shops and leisure experiences.

The opening arrives during another busy year for Battersea Power Station, with numerous restaurants, retailers and attractions launching across the riverside development throughout 2026.
