Popular Middle Eastern-inspired restaurant, The Good Egg, has officially launched with a new all-day dining restaurant in the heart of Camden. It takes inspiration from Tel Aviv food culture with a menu that moves easily from day to night. The Camden restaurant is also the first UK restaurant to serve up Knafeh Ka’ak – a traditional and much-loved Middle Eastern delicacy – and has become a hotspot for locals, workers, and tourists alike.
Like its sister sites, the independent all-day restaurant serves up dishes inspired by the flavours of the Middle East, with nods to the cuisine of Tel Aviv’s Street food stalls, the fare sold in the classic Jewish delis, grand old cafes and bagel bakeries of New York and Montreal.
The menu sees the introduction of their hero dish; Knafeh Ka’ak – a Middle Eastern speciality consisting of crisp kataifi pastry steeped in thyme and orange syrup and copious amounts of gooey cheese (essential for the exceptional cheese-pull) and served in a fresh sesame coated ‘ka’ak’ or bagel. The street food favourite, which has origins from across the Middle East with countries such as Lebanon and Israel boasting their own versions, cannot currently be found elsewhere in the UK.
Camden’s menu will feature hero dishes from Stoke Newington and Margate; The Good Egg Shakshuka with preserved lemon yoghurt, Babka French Toast with blackberry and honeycomb and the viral Arayes – mushroom + harissa stuffed corners of pita seared to golden perfection. Fresh and fluffy pitas and bagels are also on offer. Fillings include house Salt Beef with smoked cheddar + garlic + dill kraut, the sweet and tangy take on a bacon bap the Egg Bacon + Date pita with spoonfuls of citrusy amba. The Good Egg staple Sabih – with fried aubergine, fudgy eggs and zhoug will hold it’s place as always.
The Good Egg Camden offers a selection of mezze offer alongside old favourites including Lamb Shawarma, Zaatar Fried Chicken and a range of traditional dips, salads and lots of seasonal house pickles. For the drinks, a small but perfectly formed selection of cocktails includes a Sour Cherry and Campari soda, Harissa Bloody Mary alongside house sodas like the minty and refreshing Limonana. The wine list will focus on natural and biodynamic bottles with a changing by-the-glass offering.
Head Pastry Chef – and one of the founding team behind The Good Egg – Oded Mizrachi says:
‘We are incredibly excited to bring The Good Egg to Camden. Like the other restaurants, Camden will offer a fun, relaxed service and a menu full of bright, bold and colourful sharing-style dishes, inspired by our heritage, our travels and our upbringing.’
With the option to eat in or take away, the 70-cover restaurant (40 inside, 30 outside) boasts a relaxed atmosphere and tasteful décor.
The Good Egg Camden is located at Camden Stables Market, 732 to 736 Northern, Chalk Farm Rd, London NW1 8AH, open from 10am to 10pm daily.
