Rugby fans, prepare for a feast of sport and flavour this autumn — as Urban Pubs & Bars brings two southern hemisphere legends to the heart of the City for a pair of unforgettable Rugby Legends Lunches.
Hosted by former England prop David Flatman and ex-Wales international Tom Shanklin — the witty duo behind the hit podcast Flats & Shanks — these events promise top-tier banter, world-class wine, and front-row access to two of rugby’s most celebrated figures: Wallabies legend Michael Lynagh and All Blacks great Justin Marshall.
A Taste of the Southern Hemisphere
The events will take place at two of the City’s most popular venues — The Singer Tavern in Old Street and Harrild & Sons in Farringdon — just in time for the Autumn Internationals at Twickenham.
Each lunch combines a curated three-course menu with wine pairings from Peter Lehmann Wines (Australia) and Heaphy Wines (New Zealand), blending fine dining with rich sporting nostalgia. Expect dishes like slow-braised beef shin with truffle mash, crisp-skinned sea bass with citrus beurre blanc, and a decadent sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream.
Rugby Legends, Unfiltered
On October 29, The Singer Tavern welcomes World Cup-winning fly-half Michael Lynagh, who will reflect on his stellar career, captaincy, and his place among the sport’s all-time great playmakers.
Then on November 12, it’s Justin Marshall’s turn to take the stage at Harrild & Sons. With 81 Test caps for the All Blacks and five Super Rugby titles with the Crusaders, Marshall will share candid stories from his playing days, life on tour, and behind the mic.
Hosted by Flats & Shanks
Known for their razor-sharp humour and deep rugby insight, Flats & Shanks will host both afternoons, leading Q&A sessions that guarantee laughter, insight, and plenty of “you-had-to-be-there” stories.
“After the success of the Lions Tour this summer, we’re thrilled to bring these unique rugby lunches to our flagship city venues,” said James Metcalfe, Sales & Marketing Director at Urban Pubs & Bars. “It’s the perfect way to celebrate the Autumn Internationals — great food, great wine, and great rugby.”
