Global sportswear giant PUMA has officially unveiled the groundbreaking Ultra NITRO 7, introducing its renowned NITRO™ technology to football boots for the very first time.
The launch took place at the newly opened PUMA NITRO Lab in Los Angeles, the latest evolution of the brand’s innovation platform and its most ambitious showcase yet. Following previous NITRO Lab activations in Paris, Tokyo and London, the Los Angeles installation marks a significant moment as PUMA brings technology that transformed elite running onto the football pitch.
PUMA Brings NITRO Technology to Football
For the past five years, NITRO has been at the heart of PUMA’s high-performance running footwear, helping establish products such as the Fast-R3 among the world’s fastest racing shoes.
Now, the company is applying that same innovation philosophy to football with the Ultra NITRO 7.
Before media and industry guests arrived, PUMA invited young players from local youth club LA Breakers to experience the new boot first, reinforcing the brand’s community-focused approach to football development.
According to Romain Girard, Vice President of Innovation at PUMA, the technology was developed through years of athlete feedback and performance testing.
“NITRO is built on one obsession: what does the athlete actually need to go faster?”
The move represents a major step for the brand as it seeks to bring proven running performance technologies into the world’s most popular sport.
Inside the PUMA NITRO Lab
The Los Angeles NITRO Lab offers visitors an immersive look into the future of football innovation.
At its centre is a suspended display capsule showcasing the Ultra NITRO 7 against a massive LED backdrop that deconstructs the boot’s engineering in real time.

The exhibition highlights PUMA’s growing influence across football’s biggest competitions and showcases how innovation is shaping the future of the game.
What Makes the Ultra NITRO 7 Different?
Designed around the principle that every movement should feel faster, the Ultra NITRO 7 combines lightweight construction with advanced energy-return technology.
Key features include:
NITROFOAM ELITE Technology
Integrated into the sockliner and footbed, NITROFOAM ELITE compresses and rebounds rapidly, helping deliver enhanced responsiveness and energy return throughout a match.
Lightweight 180g Construction
Weighing just 180 grams, the boot is engineered for players who prioritise speed and agility.
ULTRAWEAVE Upper
The advanced upper material provides lightweight support and precision control without compromising comfort.
SPEEDSYSTEM 2.0 Outsole
PUMA’s latest outsole technology is designed to maximise traction and explosive acceleration during rapid changes of direction.
The result is what PUMA describes as the most complete Ultra football boot the company has ever produced.
Football’s Biggest Stars Set to Wear the Boot
