PIZZAEXPRESS SOLVES THE PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA DEBATE ONCE AND FOR ALL

Thanks to the nation’s most iconic pizzeria brand, PizzaExpress, the pineapple on pizza debate is no more, with new research commissioned by the brand finding that although 76% of people have tried the controversial topping and 50% of those say they love it, it’s the social stigma surrounding the topping that causes the most stir – with 37% of people saying they would be too embarrassed to order it in a restaurant.

PizzaExpress have long known the divisive topping causes a heated debate that would be best avoided from the marble table, with 38% of people saying they would judge someone for ordering pineapple on pizza, and 8% of people saying it gives them the ick if someone orders it.

The nation is however united on their love of pineapple, with 80% of people saying they love the flavour of the exotic fruit, therefore PizzaExpress knows its latest innovative twist on the famous Dough Ball can finally bring the public round once and for all, with the introduction of Hawaiian Hot Dough Balls, which 54% of people say they’d love to try.

Launching on the brand’s summer menu on Tuesday 10th June, Hawaiian Hot Dough Balls are a delicious new take on the iconic starter and mark PizzaExpress’ latest collaboration with cult-cool UK sauce brand, The Sauce Shop. Golden balls of dough are tossed in garlic butter, loaded with crispy pancetta and fresh pineapple pieces, and then drizzled with The Sauce Shop’s fiery Pineapple Habanero Hot Sauce.

Pizza fans will also find the following new additions on the summer menu:

  • Calabrian Feast Pizza: Packed with some serious heat, fans of spice will love this creation. Loaded with ‘nduja, Calabrese sausage, pepperoni and crispy pancetta, layered with two types of creamy mozzarella, Gran Milano cheese, plus an extra addition of chilli and finished with a drizzle of hot honey.
  • Four Seasons Speciale: A 1965 icon reimagined – featuring four different quarters of delicious pizza toppings – from a quarter of baby plum tomatoes and basil pesto to pepperoni and Calabrese sausage, a quarter of mushroom, truffle oil and Gran Milano cheese, and finally, a section of anchovies, capers and olives. There’s something for everyone on this iconic pizza.
  • Buffalo Chicken Wings: Flavour-packed chicken wings, smothered in The Sauce Shop’s Buffalo Hot Sauce and served with a classic cool and creamy blue cheese dip – a little bit messy, but so worth it!
  • Birthday Cake Sundae: A party in a glass that consists of creamy vanilla gelato, raspberry coulis, whipped cream and celebratory sprinkles, adorned with a mini vanilla sponge cake, filled with buttercream and raspberry jam. The finishing touch: a sprinkle of Joe & Seph’s gourmet Birthday Cake Popcorn, making this dessert the perfect finisher to a summer menu which really turns up the heat.

And for the 50% of the population who really love the fruity combination of pineapple on pizza, then the brand’s new supermarket Hawaiian chilled pizza, available in supermarkets nationwide, is what fans have been searching for, featuring the flavourful combination of pineapple with ham, Italian passata and a creamy mozzarella base.

As always, pizza fans can make the most of the PizzaExpress Club, where those dining in can now enjoy FREE Dough Balls every time they visit. Find out more at https://www.pizzaexpress.com/club.
