London favourite Ling Ling’s is ushering in the Year of the Horse with a limited-time Chinese New Year collaboration alongside cult-favourite pandan baker Sam Wong of Lil Wong Bakes, running from 20–22 February. Blending modern Asian dining with deeply personal family traditions, the three-day takeover offers a fresh, heartfelt spin on Lunar New Year feasting.
Known for its playful yet thoughtful approach to Asian cuisine, Ling Ling’s joins forces with Lil Wong Bakes’ signature pandan-forward desserts to create a menu rooted in heritage while embracing contemporary flair. The collaboration celebrates not just food, but the stories and people behind it — making it one of London’s most intimate Chinese New Year dining experiences this season.
In a personal touch that sets this menu apart, Ling Ling’s founder Jenny has brought her parents, Vien and Kien, into the kitchen. Having run a Chinese takeaway for many years, the pair will be preparing the meat dishes for the feast, honouring family recipes passed down through generations. It’s a nostalgic nod to the flavours that shaped Jenny’s culinary journey — and a reminder of the role food plays in family, memory, and celebration.
At the heart of the specially curated menu is a showcase of symbolic Chinese New Year dishes. The Steamed Whole Seabass with Ginger & Spring Onions represents abundance and togetherness, designed to be shared family-style among friends. Rich, comforting flavours come through in Red Braised Pork Belly, lovingly prepared by Vien and Kien, offering sticky, savoury indulgence that speaks to home-style cooking at its best.
Vegetarian and vegan diners are equally catered for, with vibrant dishes like Soy & Pomegranate Radish Cakes, Veggie “Duck” Bean Curd Rolls, and Boy Choy with Shimeji and Enoki Mushrooms, ensuring the celebration is inclusive without compromising on flavour or tradition.
No Chinese New Year meal would be complete without something sweet — and Lil Wong Bakes delivers a finale that’s both nostalgic and playful. Sam Wong’s Mini Pandan Sando with Clementine & Condensed Milk Drizzle takes inspiration from traditional Chinese sweets, with pandan symbolising prosperity and good fortune. A little extra wealth coming your way? One can hope. The menu also features a Pineapple Tart with Cold Crème Anglaise, a modern riff on a Lunar New Year classic.
The collaboration perfectly encapsulates what makes London’s food scene so exciting right now: tradition reimagined through personal stories, creative partnerships, and bold flavours.
