Our Story with David Attenborough has arrived at Outernet London in a new five-minute adaptation created to celebrate his 100th birthday, bringing one of the Natural History Museum’s most impressive immersive projects into the heart of the city. Presented across Outernet’s vast 360-degree screens, the experience offers a condensed visual narrative on people, planet, and the relationship between the two. Free to view, it is designed to reach passers-by in one of London’s most high-footfall cultural spaces.
Created in collaboration with Open Planet Studios, Sir David Attenborough, and the Natural History Museum, the piece combines real-world footage with scientifically grounded animation to chart the story of Earth alongside the comparatively brief story of humanity. Across its short runtime, Attenborough guides viewers through the evolving relationship between people and the natural world, before shifting towards a future-facing perspective on how cities like London might exist in balance with nature. The experience is accompanied by an original score from composer Nick Powell.
The installation is now running at the Now Building at Outernet London until 31st May. Showings run at regular intervals throughout the day, with increased frequency of 4 plays per hour across the opening weekend. Entry is free and no booking is required, making it accessible to anyone passing through the area. Visitors can also visit the Natural History Museum to enjoy the full version of Our Story with David Attenborough, with members able to access discounted tickets at a 50% reduction.
The project extends the Natural History Museum’s wider mission to turn audiences into advocates for the planet, drawing on its vast scientific collection and research output. Home to more than 80 million specimens spanning billions of years, the Museum has leveraged this experience to enhance its broader effort to communicate the scale of environmental change through immersive storytelling, with the Outernet offering the perfect opportunity for exposure in one of London’s most visible public digital spaces.
Our Story with David Attenborough can be found at Outernet, The Now Building, Charing Cross Road, London WC2H 8LH. You can find out more about the experience, and book tickets for the full 50-minute version at the Natural History Museum right here.
