Until 10th April, Mestizo Chelsea is offering Londoners a rare chance to step inside the world of Frida Kahlo, through an immersive art and dining experience inspired by her life and legacy. Hosted in the restaurant’s exclusive downstairs space, it combines exhibition, storytelling, and gastronomy into a unique journey through the history of one of Mexico’s most enduring cultural icons – brought to life in one of the city’s most respected authentic Mexican kitchens.
The exhibition explores Frida’s emotional, creative, and personal universe in an intimate setting of immersive installations, complemented by a rare photographic showcase featuring previously unseen images of the artist alongside selections from her personal letters. The newly seen materials offer an unfiltered glimpse into her inner world, revealing the vulnerability, resilience, and complexity behind her public persona.
Following the exhibition, the evening continues with an exclusive five-course tasting menu, inspired by the wedding banquet of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Drawing on historical references and traditional Mexican recipes, Mestizo’s modern kitchen transforms the table into an extension of the narrative, offering a menu of meaty Flautas (tortilla flutes), Pozole Pojo (corn stew), Fideos Secos (Mexican pasta), and Pipián con Patatas y Nopales (pork in rich pipian sauce). The meal finishes with an indulgent Tres Leches Wedding Cake, with cocktail, Mezcal, and tequila pairings with each part of the dinner.
Beyond its artistic appeal, the experience carries a strong social message through its official partnership with UN Women. Frida’s story is used as a lens through which to explore themes of resilience, creativity, and female empowerment, aligning her legacy with contemporary conversations around equality and inclusion. In hosting the project, Mestizo plays an active role in amplifying its message through meaningful cultural storytelling using the universally loved medium of the plate.
