This Halloween, Mecca Bingo is calling “full house” from beyond the grave. The legendary Rosehill club in London, the UK’s oldest bingo hall, is hosting a world-first: a phantom-led bingo session called BinGhost, guided by the venue’s resident ghost, “Fred.”
Partnering with acclaimed ghost hunters Hazel and Dean Williams of Spectrum Paranormal, Mecca is giving bingo a supernatural spin. On Tuesday 28th October, players will let their dabbers be guided by unseen hands as Fred selects the numbers from the spirit realm.
A Supernatural Spin on a Classic Game
The eerie event comes as new research by Mecca Bingo reveals that over half of Brits (54%) believe in the supernatural — a figure that rises to 70% among under-35s. Nearly two in five (39%) are seeking more immersive and unconventional ways to celebrate Halloween, suggesting that paranormal experiences are becoming the new party trend.
With ghost hunting and immersive Halloween events on the rise across the UK, Mecca’s BinGhost brings that fascination home — right into one of London’s most famously haunted buildings.
The Haunted History of Mecca Rosehill
First opened in 1937 as a Gaumont cinema, the Grade II-listed Mecca Rosehill has long been known for its ghostly goings-on. Featured in the book London Lore, staff and guests have reported decades of strange happenings: self-pouring beer taps, a child’s laughter echoing in empty halls, phantom footsteps, shadowy figures, and even the faint notes of an organ that hasn’t been in the building for decades.
Earlier this month, Spectrum Paranormal investigated the Rosehill site — and their findings were far from ordinary. Among the eerie discoveries were unexplained whistling, responsive knocks, and electromagnetic spikes near the ominously numbered table 666.
Dean Williams of Spectrum Paranormal shared:
“Mecca Rosehill has fascinated us for years. During our investigation, we witnessed a series of remarkable phenomena. With so much unusual activity, it’s the perfect location for a one-of-a-kind bingo game.”
A New Way to Celebrate Halloween
The same research found that curiosity about the afterlife is growing — especially among younger generations. Over half (54%) of under-35s say their interest in the supernatural has deepened in the last three years, with 65% looking for immersive Halloween experiences. Even more — 50% — admit they’d love to play bingo hosted by a ghost.
Sarah O’Neill, Director of Innovation at Mecca Bingo, said:
“At Mecca, we love reimagining bingo in new and unexpected ways. With interest in the supernatural booming, this Halloween felt like the perfect time to tap into the spirits at Rosehill. Players can expect a classic game with a supernatural twist — in the UK’s original bingo hall.”
