LALIGA CONTINUES THE FIGHT AGAINST RACISM WITH ‘VS RACISM’

For the third consecutive year and on the occasion of the celebration of the World Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21, LALIGA has created the concept #1voiceVSRACISM to make visible and raise awareness in society about the importance of eradicating racism in all areas.

As reflected in the Unity and Together vs racism concepts of the other two editions of this alliance, #1voiceVSRACISM will have a novel action: with the help of Little Spain, an anthem will be launched to demonstrate the importance of uniting all voices to fight racism in unison. Fans of the 42 LALIGA clubs will hear in the stadiums the inspiring verses of the anthem: There’s a feeling that travels the world, underneath your jersey, and it’s the same as my heart. I will love you above everything else, beyond the badge, only together can we win.

In addition, as in previous years, LALIGA players will show their commitment to the fight against racism by wearing a commemorative t-shirt for this edition at the start of matches on Matchday 29 of LALIGA EA SPORTS and Matchday 31 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION. Once again this year, these same shirts will be available in EA SPORTS FC 24 from March 14 until March 21. A special PUMA ball will also be used during these matchweek. Both the official t-shirts of the initiative and the PUMA ball were inspired by the colors of the campaign, which were created by the urban art group Boa Mistura, with color as a symbol of strength and color as a symbol of diversity.

For Javier Tebas, president of LALIGA, “the elimination of racism is one of our main objectives and one with which we are very involved. For years, LALIGA has been fighting to eliminate racism from its fields and to punish the person who carries it out, denouncing it to the competent authorities. With this third edition and with our title sponsor, EA SPORTS, we demonstrate that this fight is not a passing one and that it is a capillary commitment for both companies”.

In addition, throughout the month of March, different online and offline actions will be carried out to give visibility to the action from different points of view:

  • Matchday 29 of LALIGA EA SPORTS and 31 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION: during the matches played this week, visuals will be incorporated to raise awareness among fans. In addition, LALIGA players will pose with VS RACISM initiative t-shirts, making a call to action to the audience to join the cause. Information about the initiative will also be displayed in the stadiums at different points, such as on pitch LED, on the a-shaped billboards, captain’s armbands and on the video scoreboards.  Fans and clubs are also expected to launch their messages against racism during these days, and together they will contribute to making the project even bigger.
  • EA SPORTS FC 24: the fight against racism, as on previous occasions, also comes to the video game. And it does so with the same kit that LALIGA players will wear before their matches. In this case, from March 14 until March 21, World Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the kit will be available in EA SPORTS FC 24 Ultimate Team, so players are able to play their matches with it.
  • PUMA’s special ball: the ball used on match day 29 of LALIGA EA SPORTS and match day 31 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION will be a special edition inspired by the campaign’s colors, which are based on a concept created by the urban art group Boa Mistura, with color as a symbol of strength and color as a symbol of diversity.

LALIGA’s fight against racism through MOOD

#1VoiceVSRACISM is the third edition of LALIGA fight against racism. In addition, LALIGA fights racism on social media through MOOD. MOOD is a weekly monitor that audits the level of hate and racism occurring on social networks around LALIGA. It is an external tool that tracks all platforms to show each day the metrics recorded. A score from 0 to 10 indicates the hate detected, the number of people who have participated in those conversations and how many messages or conversations have been generated. Each week, the tool produces an index that reflects the level of hate from users in RRSS around the soccer conversation. Recently, on matchday 15, the lowest since records have been kept (last season) was obtained: 5.4%.

LALIGA VS

In addition, LALIGA and the clubs have launched the LALIGA VS platform with the aim of eradicating hatred inside and outside the stadiums, promoting a respectful and inclusive society in all areas. Through three pillars, LALIGA and the clubs bring together as many voices as possible to achieve the common goal of eradicating racism. To this end, over the past eight years, they have carried out more than 700 initiatives and projects. Specifically, over the last five years, the LALIGA EA SPORTS and LALIGA HYPERMOTION clubs have developed more than 44 initiatives aimed to stop hate speech.  With education as a basis, prevention with awareness campaigns and action. In fact, LALIGA has been denouncing to the State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Sport, as well as the RFEF’s Competition Committee any type of violence occurring inside and outside professional soccer stadiums, as it has been doing for several seasons, including chants during matches, denouncing or appearing in 30 proceedings for hate and violence in the last two seasons.
