HOODWOOD: A FAST TASTE OF THE CARIBBEAN ARRIVES IN THE (KENTISH TOWN) HOOD

Hoodwood, a new Caribbean takeaway from eclectic restaurateur, Omar Shah is opening today – Thursday 9th April, at 81 Kentish Town Rd in London. Inspired by the success of Omar’s established Caribbean Smokehouse, Guanabana, Hoodwood will be serving up bold and smoky flavours that reflect the true taste of the Caribbean Islands and is one opening you won’t want to miss.

An experienced operator, Omar Shah and family have been running restaurants for over two decades. Brought up in Kentish Town all Omar’s venues reflect his love of world food with Filipino at their core. Be it Ramo Ramen in Soho which is centred on Filipino style Ramen, or Mamasons Dirty (Filipino) ice cream in both Westfield London and Kentish Town, there is no doubt that Omar is behind some of London’s most innovative eating experiences and with the imminent opening of Hoodwood Omar is showing no sign of slowing down.

Central to Hoodwood’s menu are their slow cooked meats prepared over an open flame. Offering the real Caribbean deal, there are three meats to choose from; Jerk Chicken, Curry Lamb or Oxtail – all are guaranteed to deliver a rich and aromatic flavour. Served with plantain, choose to enjoy them alongside Rice and Peas or Jollof Rice. Alternatively go veggie courtesy of Hoodwood’s Carlita Veg Trio or let your taste buds fly away with their oak Smoked Chicken Wings – both are served with the same plantain / rice options.

Equally flavorsome but wrapped in a golden flaky crust are Hoodwood’s homemade Patty Pies   – filled with Jerk Chicken, Beef, Lamb or Veg, all are smoked and stewed to perfection to ensure every bite is memorable. Served with Mash and Jerk Gravy and a splash of Hot Pepper Sauce, this is pie and mash, just not as you know it – better.

Hearty Bowl Food options are also on offer where classic dishes are given a fiery update including Jerk Caesar Salad and Jerk Mac n’ Cheese. And, for those that like a bit on the side, there are eight to choose from including a refreshing slaw or the more indulgent Sweet Potato Fries – either way, there is no sidelining on flavour.

Whether you’re after a quick bite or a hearty meal, Hoodwood is all about honest, fire-kissed cooking designed to be taken away and enjoyed with friends, family or just a quiet bite alone.

With their doors opening on Thursday 9th April, from midday Hoodwood will be giving away 100 pattie pies – run don’t walk.
