High stakes will meet Steak Bakes this Christmas as Greggs has announced a partnership with Top Trumps which sees the launch of a limited-edition Greggs version of the nostalgic card game.
For the first time, fans will be able to play a new version of the classic game featuring tasty items from bakes to doughnuts, pizza to sandwiches and beyond from the Greggs menu just in time for Christmas.
With 30 mouth-watering play cards from the iconic Greggs menu, each card is scored across five categories including Fame, Mouthfuls, Socials Score, Flake Factor and includes an overall Top Trumps Rating.
Of course, there can only be one item that can be crowned the ‘Top Trump’ and with a perfect score of 100, the Sausage Roll is set to send players to victory! Elsewhere in the pack the Sausage Roll’s counterpart, the Vegan Sausage Roll, has been named the official ‘mindblower’ card after its explosive launch back in 2019, in a history-making moment the brand labelled the popular menu-item as ‘the next generation of Sausage Roll’.
The goal of Top Trumps, which has been around for over 50 years, is to win the most rounds by having the highest-scoring card in each round. Sold across the world and in over 20 languages, there are hundreds of topics including special editions from Disney, Marvel and Hello Kitty.
Priced at just £9, there will be up to 10,000 Greggs packs available to buy online from 10am on Friday 29th November.
To ‘landmark’ the launch, a giant House of Cards has been constructed on Newcastle’s Quayside made from 6ft versions of the playing cards. Situated under the shadow of the iconic Tyne Bridge at Newcastle Quayside Garden, commuters and early risers were equally intrigued by the towering 13ft installation earlier this morning.
And as an additional early Christmas present for Geordies, Greggs fans will be able to grab a free Festive Bake, Vegan Festive Bake, Sausage Roll or Sweet Mince Pie alongside a festive hot drink between 10am-5pm today (Tuesday 26th Nov) as a Greggs double decker bus serves up freshly baked treats.
Tomorrow (Wednesday 27th November), alongside the tasty festive menu, there will also be 500 packs of Greggs Top Trumps up for grabs between 10am-5pm completely free of charge and available on a first come first served basis, ahead of the stocking filler going on sale this Friday.
If a pack of limited-edition Greggs Top Trumps wasn’t enough, there will also be five coveted gold rare cards to celebrate Greggs’ much-loved ‘secret menu’ of regional and seasonal delights. Featuring north-east favourites such as the Cheese & Onion Stottie and Peach Melba, the south’s beloved Tottenham Cake, Scotland’s Haggis Pie and of course the ultimate festive treat; the Festive Bake. Those lucky enough to grab a Top Trumps pack from the House of Cards will also receive one of these sought after rare cards.
The highly-anticipated launch follows previous merchandise ranges including the Greggs x Primark partnership which saw Greggs Christmas Jumpers sell-out almost instantly.
For those who don’t manage to grab a free pack this Wednesday, fans can bag one of 10,000 packs that will go on sale this Friday 29th November for just £9, with some lucky fans receiving an exclusive rare card with their purchase.
About Greggs:
Greggs is a leading UK food-on-the-go retailer with over 2,500 shops nationwide and approximately 32,000 employees across the business.
The company was founded in 1939 by John Gregg, then delivering fresh eggs and yeast, by pushbike, to the families of Newcastle. Greggs has since grown to become a nation’s-favourite and much-loved British brand.
Greggs has always been committed to doing the right thing by its people, partners and the communities it serves. In the sixties Greggs launched its first free ‘pie n peas supper’ for older residents in Gateshead, an initiative that still runs today and continues to support the elderly within the communities Greggs operates in. The Greggs Breakfast Club, launched in 1999, provides schoolchildren with free wholesome breakfasts each school day and today supports over 75,000 children through its 1,000 Breakfast Clubs, across the UK. These, and many more initiatives, are supported through the Greggs Foundation, a dedicated grant-making charity that aims to build stronger, healthier communities in the areas we operate.
As a food-on-the-go retailer, Greggs continues to specialise in daily fresh shop-made sandwiches, and savouries baked fresh in the shop ovens throughout the day. These are further complemented by popular products and ranges including freshly ground coffee, breakfast, confectionery and evening menu items. Greggs also offers a healthier options range which includes a selection of gluten-free, vegan-friendly and lower calorie products.
Greggs has a delivery partnership with both Just Eat and UberEATS enabling customers to enjoy their Greggs favourites via order and delivery. Greggs’ Click + Collect offering provides customers with the ability to select their shop and collection time slot of choice and allows them to order a range of Greggs products in advance, ready for collection when they arrive at our shops.
Greggs successfully launched its new website and Greggs App, including its enhanced loyalty proposition.
