DORITOS SCAN GRAND PRIX SEES JENSON BUTTON OUTPACED BY CHECKOUT CHAMPION IN F1-THEMED SHOWDOWN!

Former F1 world champion Jenson Button swapped his racing gloves for a supermarket scanner as he took part in the first-ever Doritos Scan Grand Prix — a high-speed, F1-inspired checkout challenge designed to celebrate the upcoming 2026 racing season.

The challenge, created by Doritos, brought the thrill of Formula 1 to the supermarket aisle as Button raced three expert Tesco cashiers to scan an F1 viewing party snack haul — headlined by Doritos’ status as the Official Savoury Snack of Formula 1.

Despite his legendary racing reflexes, Button was ultimately beaten by checkout superstar “Rocket Rofiat”, who delivered a blistering winning time of 43.22 seconds.

Checkout Champions Outpace F1 Legend

The race took place at the Tesco Hatfield store, where local supermarket experts competed against the 15-time Grand Prix winner.

Alongside Rofiat Adeleke, two other contestants also managed to beat Button at the checkout:

  • Bobby-Lee Boggins — “Bobby The Brave” (21)

  • Lucy Spurr — “Lightning Lucy” (19)

However, it was Adeleke who dominated the competition, finishing 6.46 seconds ahead of Button, whose attempt was reportedly slowed by some tricky conveyor belt organisation under pressure.

F1 Fan Creators Hosted the Action

The event was hosted by Matt and Tommy, creators of the popular P1 F1 YouTube channel, who provided live-style commentary as packs of Doritos Chilli Heatwave and the new Doritos Golden Sriracha flavour flew through the scanners.

With the 2026 Formula 1 season fast approaching, the challenge was inspired by viral insights showing that supermarket colleagues often demonstrate remarkable speed and precision under pressure.

Winner’s Reaction

Rofiat Adeleke, the first-ever Doritos Scan Grand Prix Winner, said:

“I’ve seen Jenson on the podium before, but it’s crazy to compete with him here in my world! My partner and I are huge Formula 1 fans and I can’t wait to tell him we’ll be going to Silverstone this summer — he’ll be absolutely over the moon!”

Meanwhile, Button joked about the challenge of transferring his racing skills to retail speed-scanning:

“My whole life I have tried to be as fast as possible, but this was a new challenge entirely. Whether you’re taking Silverstone’s Copse corner at 180mph or scanning a bag of Doritos Golden Sriracha, every millisecond counts!”
