William Hill have named their top contenders to become the next James Bond, who fit the franchise’s production casting ‘rules’ recently announced.
Eon Productions reportedly want a ‘fresh-faced’ 007 to replace Daniel Craig, after he bowed out in an explosive end to his reign as the British agent in last year’s No Time to Die.
Although Craig’s successor may not be revealed until next autumn at the latest, the producers are allegedly looking for someone in their late 30s so that they can stay in the role for a decade, or at least three films.
Rumour has it that they’re not only looking for youth, but also height as the candidate reportedly must be over 5’10, therefore ruling out a good few favourites for the role.
UK bookmakers William Hill’s favourite to take on the role, The Witcher and Man of Steel star Henry Cavill (5-2), just about fits the bill. The 39-year-old Jersey actor comes in at a stature of 6 foot, certainly ticking the height requirement.
Cavill was first linked with playing James Bond ahead of Daniel Craig starring in Casino Royale, with director Martin Campbell revealing that he was eventually overlooked for the role as “he was too young, and also wasn’t experienced as Daniel.”
Also meeting the requirements is Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page, tipped a healthy 4-1. Coming in at 34 years old, Page would have a good few years to commit to the role, but at 5’11, The Gray Man star just makes it for consideration.
Rogue Agent star James Norton could use his ‘spy’ skills legitimately, as the 37-year-old is tipped 6-1 to become the next James Bond. Meeting 5’10 requirement at a grand 6 foot, Norton has long been backed by fans to take on the role.
Another favourite who meets the criteria is The Bodyguard star Richard Madden, priced at 14-1. The 36-year-old Scotsman just makes the height requirement, coming in at 5’8.
