WHOOP teams up with Liverpool defender and Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk

WHOOP, the human performance company, today announced Virgil van Dijk as their newest investor and global brand ambassador. van Dijk has been using WHOOP technology to help him monitor and take control of his sleep, recovery and training. WHOOP is a wearable health and fitness coach designed to help members make meaningful lifestyle changes via personalized insights and actionable feedback on sleep, recovery, and strain.

“As a longtime WHOOP member, this partnership makes perfect sense for me; every percentage

of improvement that you can make ultimately benefits you, and WHOOP is a tool that helps me

take control of my health and be successful.” said Liverpool and Netherlands star, Virgil van

Dijk. “Football seasons are always long, particularly in a World Cup year, so recovery will be even

more crucial than ever. Working with WHOOP will be a huge asset in helping me ensure that I’m

doing the right things to set me up to perform.”

At a time when players are constantly searching for marginal gains to stay ahead of the competition, van Dijk has relied on WHOOP to help keep him on top of his game. Since coming back from a serious ACL injury in the 2020/21 season, van Dijk has gone on to play the most competitive minutes of any Liverpool player in the combined 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons, crediting WHOOP as a key contributor for changing how he approaches recovery.

In joining the company as an investor, van Dijk will provide direct feedback on product development and help shape how WHOOP supports athletes of all levels looking to improve their performance. The Netherlands captain and Liverpool FC centre-half joins an already impressive list of WHOOP members and ambassadors, including stars such as Rory McIlroy, Michael Phelps, Anthony Watson & Beth Mead.
