The Heart of MCM: Cosplay, Creativity and Community

Before we dive into the celebrity panels, let’s talk about what really makes MCM Comic Con London special — the cosplay community.

Every October, ExCeL London transforms into a vibrant world of colour, craftsmanship and pure creative expression. This year was no exception. Thousands of fans brought their favourite characters to life — from Final Fantasy VII’s Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockhart to jaw-dropping recreations of Spider-Verse heroes, One Piece pirates, and Star Wars Sith Lords.

The Cosplay Central Stage buzzed with energy all weekend, hosting competitions, meet-ups, and workshops for beginners and seasoned creators alike. Highlights included the MCM Cosplay Masquerade, where participants showcased intricate handmade designs judged on accuracy, creativity, and stage presence.

Beyond the contest, the sense of community and acceptance was undeniable. MCM’s cosplay scene has long been a safe haven for self-expression — a place where fans of every background can connect through their love of fandom.

Day One: Final Fantasy VII Remake and God of War Take Centre Stage

The weekend kicked off in spectacular fashion with Final Fantasy VII Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi joined by voice actors John Eric Bentley, Briana White, Britt Baron, and Paul Tinto.

Addressing fan rumours about the cancellation of the series’ third instalment, Hamaguchi was quick to set the record straight:

“That is absolutely not happening — it’s going ahead! We’re working very hard on the third part of the trilogy now… and we can’t wait to share it with you soon.”

Meanwhile, God of War icons Christopher Judge and Sunny Suljic took fans behind the scenes of the Norse saga. Judge teased that he’d love to see the next God of War explore Egyptian mythology — joking that it would be “a completion of my circle” after his Stargate days.

In a wholesome moment, Judge also revealed that his family still holds Tekken 8 tournaments at home:

“I’m Eddie — because his hair game’s on point.”

Day Two: Comedy Icons, Ghosts, and Retro Gaming Legends

Day two brought laughs and nostalgia as Superbad and Kick-Ass star Christopher Mintz-Plasse took to the main stage. Reflecting on his London filming days, he shared that the city “made me an adult,” and called for the Oscars to “take comedy more seriously.”

Ghosts creators Laurence Rickard and Martha Howe-Douglas also gave fans a peek into the global success of their hit sitcom — with Rickard joking that “Spanish Robin is better than me.”

On the Live Stage, developers from Perfect Dark and TimeSplitters reunited to celebrate both games’ 25th anniversaries. Programmer Steve Ellis and designer David Doak reflected on Rare’s creative freedom post-GoldenEye 007, explaining how Perfect Dark’s heroine, Joanna Dark, was inspired by La Femme Nikita rather than Lara Croft.

Doak later touched on the challenges of modern game development, saying it’s now “so hard to innovate in shooters” — a sobering yet insightful moment for gaming fans.

Day Three: The Boys, Mass Effect, and a Predator Surprise

Day three went full-throttle with The Boys reunion featuring Karl Urban, Karen Fukuhara, Laz Alonso, and Tomer Capone. Urban teased that fans will finally learn the story behind Butcher’s scar in Season 5, while Fukuhara opened up about learning sign language for her role as Kimiko.

The panel ended on a high as the cast received two Guinness World Records — for Most In-Demand Action-Adventure TV Show and Most In-Demand Superhero TV Show.

The excitement didn’t stop there. The Mass Effect panel saw voice acting legends Jennifer Hale, Mark Meer, Ali Hillis, and Alix Wilton Regan discuss the evolution of the franchise and the future of voice acting amid the rise of AI.

“AI is a tool like a hammer,” Hale said. “But the sacred signal of the human soul in performance — that’s something tech can’t replace.”

Closing out the weekend, the cast of Predator: Badlands — including Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi — surprised fans with an exclusive 20-minute preview of the film. Director Dan Trachtenberg even hid premiere tickets under five lucky attendees’ seats.

What’s Next: MCM Birmingham Comic Con 2025 & MCM Comic Con London 2026 Returns!
