FLAT IRON BRINGS AFFORDABLE STEAK TO CLAPHAM WITH FIRST SOUTH LONDON OPENING

Affordable steak favourite Flat Iron has announced it will open its first South London site later this year, landing in the heart of Clapham Old Town at 18–19 The Pavement.

The 130-cover restaurant marks a major milestone for the growing steakhouse brand, known for its stripped-back approach and focus on high-quality beef at accessible prices. The new opening is set to further strengthen South London’s already thriving food scene, just moments from Clapham Common.

A Steak-Led Menu Built on Simplicity and Quality

As with all Flat Iron restaurants, the Clapham menu will centre around its signature flat iron steak – a cut from the feather blade prized for its tenderness, flavour and juiciness when expertly prepared.

Alongside the hero steak, diners can expect a rotating selection of blackboard specials, including Wagyu daily dishes and a Flat Iron burger made from beef sourced from the brand’s own herd in Thirsk, Yorkshire.

Sides will include:

  • Beef dripping chips
  • Crispy bone marrow mash
  • Truffled macaroni cheese
  • Creamed spinach

The concept continues Flat Iron’s commitment to simple, high-impact food done well, with a focus on British sourcing and nose-to-tail butchery.

Drinks Menu: Wines, Fizzes and Signature Blends

The drinks list will feature a curated selection of wines, craft beers, cocktails and house fizzes.

A standout highlight is Flat Iron’s own-label Malbec, blended by the in-house team using grapes from the Limoux region in southern France’s Languedoc.

Design Inspired by Clapham’s Character

Overlooking Clapham Common, the new restaurant will span two floors with 114 indoor covers and a 16-seat outdoor terrace surrounded by greenery.

Design elements will reflect Flat Iron’s signature aesthetic, including:

  • Reclaimed timber panelling
  • Salvaged flooring
  • Vintage furniture
  • Bespoke lighting
  • Abundant planting throughout

The result aims to create a warm, relaxed dining space that balances rustic character with modern comfort.

“It’s Going to Be My New Local” – Head of Beef Speaks

Fred Smith, Head of Beef at Flat Iron, said the Clapham opening carries personal significance:

“Opening a restaurant in Clapham, my home, will be special. I grew up in the area and witnessed firsthand the evolution of the high street… to be bringing the beef back has extra meaning.”

He added that the team plans to create something memorable for the local community, reflecting both personal roots and the area’s evolving hospitality scene.

Flat Iron’s UK Expansion Continues

Founded by Charlie Carroll in 2012 as a pop-up above a pub in East London, Flat Iron has grown into a nationwide success story with 16 London restaurants and five across the UK.

The brand has expanded into cities including Bristol and Manchester, with further openings planned in Newcastle, Birmingham, Liverpool and its first Scottish site in Glasgow. Its most recent opening was in Piccadilly in spring 2026.

Flat Iron also operates its own herd of cattle in Thirsk, working closely with third-generation farmer Charles Ashbridge to maintain quality and consistency across its beef supply.
