Where to go now: BRIGADE BAR + KITCHEN

We know how great it feels when you go out for a really delicious meal, we also know how great it feels to help the vulnerable and those at risk of homelessness – now you can do both at the same time at Brigade Bar + Kitchen in London Bridge.

Created by Chef Simon Boyle, with social purpose at its heart to support the work of the Beyond Food Foundation, a charity providing life-changing opportunities to individuals whose lives have unravelled and need vital support and inspiration to grab hold of their life, regardless of their current or past circumstances.

Set in an old Victorian fire station, we were greeted by warm interiors with wood-panelling, exposed brickwork and a statement bar. Designed with a deep blue and gold palette throughout, we took a seat at one of the wood-topped tables and got to watch the chefs in action from the open kitchen.

We had an early lunch and were immediately impressed with the attentive and knowledgeable staff. They talked us through the menu and helped us decide on the chicken liver pate and the Chicken Caesar salad to start. The pate was flavourful and they also gave a generous amount of chutney which is always a bonus in my books! The Chicken Caesar was also a generous size and adorned with all the traditional toppings.

Despite being full from the starters, we then when on to try some of their their wood-fired specialities – the harissa spatchcock chicken and the Brigade burger. Both were delicious but the chicken was the winner; sit was juicy, slightly spicy and served with the tender stem broccoli with teriyaki and sesame seeds it was wonderful.

Finally, we completed the meal with the sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate delice & orange compote – the perfect finish to a great meal.

The social purpose of the restaurant really adds to the atmosphere, and I thoroughly recommend you visit Brigade Bar + Kitchen. We will certainly be back to taste some of the other dishes we didn’t get to try!

Open Monday to Friday from 11.30am-10.30pm, Brigade Bar + Kitchen is open for bookings and walk-ins.
