Verge Meets: LAMINE YAMAL, AS HE MAKES HIS BEATS DEBUT AS CEO OF LAMINE RECORDS

Beats has launched its first piece of content featuring global ambassador Lamine Yamal.  Lamine, who is seen in a new light as CEO of Lamine Records strives to find the perfect track for match day before a young fan finally gives him the inspiration he needs. A sharp suited and confident Lamine searches for the perfect beat considering various tracks including music by Spanish Moroccan rapper Morad, who also makes a cameo appearance.  Morad is Lamine’s favourite artist and there is huge love and respect between them, having both grown up in the same Spanish neighbourhood – the 304.

We caught up with Lamine to ask him about the partnership, music and sport.

Lamine Yamal on Music:

You’re the self-proclaimed DJ in the locker room – how do you choose the tracks to hype up your teammates?

“It depends on the day. I’m always switching up rhythms and artists. I usually play rap, trap, and afro beats.”

Who have you been listening to lately?

“Morad is always on the playlist. Myke Towers, some classic reggaetón…”

What kind of music helps you get ready for big moments?

“Besides the ones I mentioned, I’d say old-school rappers like 50 Cent and Eminem. I put on my Beats, turn up the volume, and get into game mode.”

Tell us a song or artist you love that we wouldn’t expect from you.

“Maybe some flamenco… I don’t listen to it as often, but I really like it.”

What are your pre-match rituals with Beats by Dre?

“They travel with me everywhere. I usually use them to get into my own headspace – they help me focus. On flights, bus rides to the stadium, during the pitch walk-throughs – my Beats are always with me.”

Lamine Yamal on Sport

Who’s your favourite player outside of Barcelona right now?

“Right now, outside of Barça, I think Dembélé or Bukayo Saka are doing really well.”

What’s your all-time favourite El Clásico moment?

“Well, there are a lot of historic ones, but now that I get to be part of it, I’d say the most recent Copa del Rey final. The way the match played out – and the fact that we won (laughs).”

What’s one stadium you’ve never played in but would love to?

“There are so many I’ve yet to experience, especially outside of Europe. In Europe, some of the iconic ones I’d like to play in are Old Trafford and Anfield.”

Lamine can be seen in a custom pair of Beats Studio Pro inspired by the colours of his football team. The recently launched Powerbeats Pro 2, Studio Pro, Beats Pill and Beats Solo 4 also feature throughout.
