There is something exciting about the artistry of makeup and so many talented estheticians specialize in this discipline within the field of cosmetology. However, as time goes on, new trends in makeup take front and center stage which is why a practicing esthetician may want to get certified in new procedures. Not only can it add to your bottom line but there is a sense of adventure when branching out into a service that few other ‘artists’ in your area are able to provide. Here are a couple of the more recent trends you may be called upon to provide and the reasons why you just might want to get certified in either or both of them.
Lash Lift and Tint Service
Unlike eyelash extensions, a lash lift service doesn’t actually add eyelashes or use chemicals to offer your clients fuller, longer lashes. The procedure of lifting the lashes is all natural and although there are no chemicals to leave on, the patron’s lashes will appear as if they are wearing mascara but will rarely need to do so.
The process actually lifts the lashes up and away from the roots which, as mentioned above, will give them a longer, fuller appearance. However, if your client wants darker, more pronounced lashes, they can have you tint them as well. This would require a chemical dye, but a simple lash lift as taught in the Lash Lift and Eyelash Tint Training Course would not require any chemicals whatsoever.
A lash lift will generally last at least 4 to 6 weeks, after which the procedure can be repeated as needed. Again, since there are no chemicals used in the lash lift without a tint, most patrons don’t bat an eyelash (pun intended!) at having the service repeated as often as necessary.
Lash Extensions
Lash extensions were mentioned above in the context that a ‘chemical’ would be used in the service. This is referring to the glue that holds the lashes, one by one, to a patron’s natural lashes. This can be more time consuming than a lash lift but when being repeated, it may only be a matter of applying new lashes where previous ones have fallen free.
Lash extensions are in high demand but based on the length of time it takes to apply lashes individually, it may be charged at a higher rate than other services an esthetician can offer. These also last about 4 to 6 weeks, but a quick application of a single lash or two that came off prematurely can be done in just a few moments of time.
Keeping Up with the Trends
These are specializations you may not have covered in classes if you have been licensed for some number of years. However, that piece of paper goes a very long way in instilling customer confidence in you as an esthetician. Showing that you are keeping up with trends in a professional manner will earn you recognition in the field. It’s like walking into a doctor’s office finding all those framed certificates covering a whole wall. If you want to own your market, you will definitely want to paper your wall as well!
