The rise of ‘Bloke-Core’ fashion

Cool Britannia is making a comeback – boot-cut jeans, ‘Dad’ trainers and retro football shirts are on the rise, and the Oasis-blaring nineties ‘geezer’ look is cooler and more fashionable than ever before.

‘Bloke-Core’, which has a definitive nineties feel, is defined by sportswear, particularly trainers, tracksuits and football shirts, but those sporting the trend have no intention of actually doing sport. With the help of TikTok, the trend looks set to continue rising throughout the year – with accessibility and simplicity at the heart of the look.

Brands such as Stone Island and CP Company have always previously been at the heart of the ‘casuals’ look, coupled with a pair of Adidas Sambas or Gazelles.

With vintage football shirts proving popular this summer, more and more high-end fashion chains and collaborating on football shirts – including Stussy x PSG, Supreme x Adidas and Palace x Moschino. The top-traded match shirt on StockX is the Nike Barcelona FC 20/21 Match Shirt Jersey Multi – showing even without Messi, the iconic stripes of the Blaugrana remain as popular as ever.

Data from StockX has also shown that ‘dad’ trainers are on the rise, with the number of New Balance 550s listed on the site increasing by 200 per cent year on year with sales up a huge 550 per cent, as well as Adidas Sambas increasing by 171 per cent. Sales of New Balance 990s have also rocketed up 350 per cent.

Big brand collaborations between high fashion and sports brands have been hugely popular over the past decade, including Palace and Adidas and more recently Supreme and Umbro and Adidas and Gucci capitalising on this trend.
