The Duck and Rice Expands to Battersea with Signature Cantonese Menu

The Duck & Rice has expanded to Battersea Power Station, marking the long-anticipated arrival of its second site. A decade after opening its original restaurant in Soho, the brand brings its signature combination of Cantonese cooking and British pub style to one of London’s most architecturally striking destinations – already drawing attention for both its menu and brilliant new setting.

The restaurant’s second outpost sits in an open-plan dining room with 185 covers, anchored by an open kitchen and a raised bar serving beer on tap, cocktails, and soft drinks. Interiors by Macaulay Sinclair take cues from South Chinese tea houses and Cha Chaan Tengs, social dining spaces that, much like pubs, combine warmth, immersion, and practicality to create a refined but lively environment, even early in the week.

Its wide-ranging menu spans dim sum, rice and noodle dishes, wok-fried signatures, and house specials, with all dishes designed with sharing in mind. Among the highlights is the venison puff, with delicate pastry and a savoury, lightly spiced filling that makes for an ideal opening dish. The soft scallop and prawn shumai is a dim sum favourite, alongside the char siu bun which delivers a flavourful BBQ pork filling in a fluffy steamed bun. From the house specials, the Duck and Rice is a must-order, serving up tender roast duck with crispy skin alongside a rich jasmine rice and cucumber. Elsewhere, the Kung Po chicken is an unexpected standout, with the seemingly simple dish elevated to serve up one of the surprising highlights of the entire menu.

No diner should leave without exploring The Duck and Rice’s desserts. The Golden Custard Delight (warm buns filled with egg custard) comes steamed or fried, while the black coconut ice cream is served with shaved coconut and crisp raspberries, bringing a contrast of texture and temperature that’s as memorable as its dark colour.

The Duck & Rice is already proving a popular addition to the Battersea Power Station development, with steady crowds even on quieter weekdays. Staff are well-informed and visibly proud of the dishes they serve, offering thoughtful and personalised recommendations to taste. Ten years after its original debut, the concept still feels novel – rooted in Cantonese tradition, but grounded in a London pub atmosphere that makes it feel simultaneously familiar and unique. Whichever side of London you’re on, The Duck & Rice makes a compelling case to cross town – and is one that undoubtedly belongs on your must-try list.

You can find The Duck & Rice’s new opening at Unit L1-003 Level 1, Phase 2, Battersea Power Station, London SW11 8DD. Find out more and book your tables right here.
