Camden may be best known for its rebellious music scene and iconic markets, but beneath its punk exterior lies a history steeped in folklore and mystery. Embracing that enchanted legacy, The Camden Watch Company — the British independent brand founded by husband-and-wife team Anneke Short and Jerome Robert — has launched a brand-new addition to its No.27 range: the Witchcraft Edition.
A Spellbinding Tribute to Camden’s Folklore
Long before Camden became London’s hub for creativity, its outskirts were alive with tales of witches, healers, and wise women. During the 16th and 17th centuries, these figures offered herbal remedies and charms in a world with few doctors. Their reputations, however, often teetered between reverence and fear — a tension that has shaped Camden’s mystical allure ever since.
Among them was the infamous Jinney Bingham, also known as Mother Red Cap, who lived where The World’s End pub now stands. Rumours swirled of her lovers’ mysterious disappearances and of eerie lights emanating from her home. Though tried for witchcraft, she was never convicted — and her legend only grew. Her spirit, they say, still lingers around Camden High Street. (Fun fact: British musician Frank Turner even wrote a song about her.)
Camden’s witchy lore doesn’t stop there. Tales of Mother Black Cap, a rival or perhaps another incarnation of Bingham herself, add to the folklore tapestry that continues to inspire artists, writers, and now, watchmakers.
The No.27 Witchcraft Edition: A Talisman for Modern Times
Speaking about the collection, designer Anneke Short says:
“Camden’s magical past became the cornerstone of an idea: what if we designed a watch filled with symbolism and meaning — a kind of talisman made for daily wear?”
Each No.27 Witchcraft Edition watch is infused with centuries-old symbolism. At its heart lies a daisy wheel, an ancient apotropaic symbol once carved into buildings to trap evil spirits. Flanked by crescent moons at 3 and 9 o’clock, the design forms the Triple Goddess — representing life, death, and rebirth; a nod to balance, nature, and femininity.

On the case back, the engraving reads:
“An ye harm none, do what ye will.”
A timeless Wiccan reminder to live freely and kindly — and to carry a little magic wherever you go.
The Witchcraft Edition is available in two finishes:
-
Black ion-plated stainless steel case with purple dial
-

Each model can be paired with a black, tan, or oxblood leather strap (£155) or a black mesh strap (£175).
