TESCO LAUNCHES ‘PARK & PAUSE’ BAYS OFFERING FREE COFFEE AND A BREAK THIS EASTER!

This Easter, Tesco is rolling out a thoughtful new initiative designed to give busy Brits a rare moment of peace — and a free hot drink while they’re at it.

Launching on Saturday 11th April, the supermarket giant will introduce limited-edition “Park & Pause” bays in selected store car parks across the UK. The initiative is aimed at the four in ten Brits (42%) who admit they’ve taken a trip to the supermarket simply to enjoy a bit of alone time.

Visitors who pull into one of these designated spaces will be treated to a free Tesco Finest hot drink, a biscuit, and a chance to recharge, offering a small but meaningful escape from the chaos of everyday life.

Why Brits Are Craving a Break

According to Tesco’s latest research, the demand for a quick breather is especially strong among parents — particularly those with young children.

  • 68% of parents with children under four say they’ve volunteered for a supermarket run just to get some time alone
  • Compared to 38% of non-parents, highlighting just how valuable that short escape can be

While family time is cherished, the reality of school holidays can be overwhelming:

  • 71% of parents say holidays can take their toll
  • 48% struggle to keep children entertained
  • 34% juggle work and childcare
  • 22% feel pressure organising activities like Easter egg hunts

By the final weekend of the Easter break, 71% are ready for routine to return, with nearly two-thirds (64%) admitting they need a holiday after the holiday.

The Power of Just 14 Minutes Alone

Tesco’s research also reveals how impactful even a short pause can be. On average, Brits begin to feel restored after just 14 minutes alone, while one in five say just five minutes is enough to feel better.

However, carving out that time isn’t always easy:

  • 59% of Brits admit to inventing excuses to leave the house
  • Popular “escape tactics” include:
    • Taking the bins out (23%)
    • Going to get petrol (19%)
    • Picking up a made-up missing ingredient (19%)

And for many, even enjoying a simple hot drink is a challenge — with 66% of people wishing they could drink a cup of tea while it’s still hot.

What to Expect from Park & Pause Bays

The Park & Pause bays will be clearly marked with a stopwatch symbol, signalling a space dedicated to slowing down and taking a breather.

Between 8am and 5pm, Tesco ambassadors will even hand-deliver freshly brewed drinks directly to car windows, creating a small moment of calm without needing to leave your vehicle.

Whether shoppers are flying solo or taking a break with family, the initiative is open to anyone who needs a quick reset before heading into store or back home.

Part of Tesco’s Bigger Campaign

The initiative ties into Tesco’s new “Need anything from Tesco?” campaign, which highlights how the retailer supports customers beyond just groceries.

This includes:

  • Free nappies for premature babies
  • Free fruit and veg for schools
  • Savings through Clubcard Reward Partners, including:
    • Meals out
    • Holidays abroad
    • Discounted cinema tickets

Where to Find Park & Pause Bays

The Park & Pause spaces will be available at ten Tesco locations across the UK on Saturday 11th April, including:

  • Cardiff Culverhouse Cross Extra
  • Coventry Walsgrave Superstore
  • Leeds Seacroft Extra
  • Musselburgh Extra (Scotland)
  • Newcastle Upon Tyne Extra
  • Nottingham Top Valley Extra

A Small Pause That Makes a Big Difference

With supermarket trips increasingly doubling as moments of escape, Tesco’s Park & Pause bays tap into a very real need for small, restorative breaks in busy lives.

Whether it’s five minutes of silence, a hot coffee, or simply a change of scenery, this Easter initiative proves that sometimes, the simplest gestures can have the biggest impact.
