The cult classic JRPG is making its long-awaited comeback more than 30 years after its original SNES release

Publisher Clear River Games has announced that the classic action RPG will launch on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox and PC in early 2027, marking the game’s first modern re-release since it originally arrived in 1995.
The announcement is particularly significant for fans who have spent decades waiting to experience Quintet’s ambitious RPG on modern hardware. Terranigma never received an official release in North America during its original run, helping the game develop a reputation as one of the great hidden gems of the Super Nintendo era.
A 16-Bit Classic Gets a Second Life
Originally developed by Quintet, Terranigma arrived during the final years of the 16-bit generation, when Japanese RPGs were beginning to evolve rapidly.
Rather than simply relying on traditional turn-based combat, the game combines RPG progression with fast-paced action. Players control Ark, a young resident of the village of Crysta, as he embarks on an extraordinary journey connected to the resurrection and development of Earth.
The game’s world is divided between a mysterious Darkside and the external Lightside, with Ark’s actions gradually triggering events that reshape the planet itself.
Its ambitious themes of creation, destruction, humanity and the development of life helped Terranigma stand apart from many of its contemporaries.
