British girl group the Sugababes made aviation and music history this week after performing a live concert from 35,000 feet aboard a Virgin Atlantic flight, streamed globally in real time using SpaceX’s Starlink Wi-Fi technology.
The exclusive event saw Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhán Donaghy transform Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class social space, The Loft, into a floating concert venue aboard an Airbus A350 aircraft. Fans around the world tuned in live through Virgin Atlantic’s Instagram and TikTok channels as the trio performed iconic hits including Push The Button, Too Lost in You and About You Now.
The innovative inflight concert showcased the power of Starlink’s next-generation satellite internet connectivity, marking a major milestone for in-flight entertainment and onboard passenger experience.

Virgin Atlantic Demonstrates the Future of In-Flight Connectivity
The livestream was powered entirely by Starlink, the satellite internet service developed by SpaceX, which uses thousands of low-Earth orbit satellites to provide high-speed, low-latency internet connectivity around the globe.
According to Virgin Atlantic, the onboard Wi-Fi system can support activities typically associated with ground-based internet, including streaming, gaming, shopping, browsing, working remotely and even brief audio calls.
The airline is currently rolling out Starlink Wi-Fi across its fleet, beginning with Airbus A350 aircraft before expanding to Boeing 787 and Airbus A330neo planes. Virgin Atlantic plans to complete full fleet-wide connectivity by 2027.

Sugababes Bring Fans Together Above the Clouds
The Sugababes described the experience as one of the most surreal moments of their career.
“We always said the sky was the limit — turns out, it’s just the beginning,” the group said in a statement. “Taking live music to the skies and turning an airplane into a global stage is unlike anything we’ve ever done.”
The performance also included an exclusive onboard Q&A session where fans submitted requests and interacted live with the band during the stream.
The event highlighted how modern connectivity is reshaping travel experiences, allowing passengers to stay fully connected even while flying across oceans and remote regions.

Virgin Atlantic Says This Is ‘Just the Beginning’
Virgin Atlantic’s Chief Customer Officer, Juha Jaervinen, explained that the event was designed to demonstrate the capabilities of Starlink technology in a memorable way.
“This isn’t just about introducing Wi-Fi, it’s about showing what it can do,” Jaervinen said. “By livestreaming a performance from 35,000 feet, we’re demonstrating the power of Starlink to deliver a seamless, high-quality connection in the air.”
He added that the Sugababes were the perfect partners for the campaign due to their lasting impact on British pop culture and ability to connect generations through music.
A New Era for Airline Entertainment
As airlines continue investing in advanced onboard technology, Virgin Atlantic’s livestream concert may signal the beginning of a new era where live events, creator content and fully connected travel experiences become standard for passengers.
With Starlink-powered connectivity now expanding across international routes including North America, the Caribbean, Nigeria and the Maldives, the future of inflight entertainment is looking increasingly interactive.
