SONOS PLAY AND ERA 100 SL ANNOUNCED: NEW SPEAKERS EXPAND THE SONOS SMART AUDIO ECOSYSTEM

Premium audio brand Sonos has unveiled two new speakers designed to strengthen its connected home audio ecosystem: the Sonos Play and Sonos Era 100 SL. The new devices aim to make it easier for users to start or expand their Sonos system room by room while maintaining powerful, room-filling sound.

The speakers were introduced with a renewed focus on creating a seamless listening experience that grows with users over time rather than replacing existing devices.

“Much of consumer tech promises innovation, yet too often delivers isolation — new devices replacing old ones instead of building on what already works,” said Tom Conrad, Chief Executive Officer of Sonos. “We believe a great sound experience shouldn’t reset every time you add something new. It should get better.”

According to Conrad, the Sonos Play and Era 100 SL represent the company’s core philosophy: simple products backed by a powerful ecosystem.

Sonos Play: A Portable Speaker Built for Home and Beyond

The Sonos Play is positioned as the brand’s most versatile speaker yet, delivering rich stereo sound whether used at home or on the move.

When connected over Wi-Fi, the speaker integrates seamlessly into the broader Sonos system, allowing users to group speakers across rooms or pair them for stereo listening. A dedicated charging base keeps the device anchored at home while still enabling easy portability.

The speaker is also built for life on the go. Its removable utility loop and durable IP67 waterproof design make it ideal for outdoor use, while the battery delivers up to 24 hours of playback. The device even includes a built-in power bank for charging a smartphone.

Another standout feature is Bluetooth grouping, allowing up to four Sonos Play or Sonos Move 2 speakers to connect together for portable listening.

The Play also features Trueplay tuning technology, which automatically adjusts sound output based on the environment, ensuring optimal audio performance wherever the speaker is used.

Additional highlights include:

  • Voice assistant support

  • Compatibility with Spotify Connect and Apple AirPlay 2

  • Integration with the Sonos app for unified control

  • Sustainable design with optimized power management and a replaceable battery

Era 100 SL: A Simpler Entry Into the Sonos Ecosystem

Alongside the Play, Sonos also revealed the Sonos Era 100 SL, a simplified version of the popular Sonos Era 100 speaker.

The Era 100 SL removes the microphone for a mic-free listening experience, making it ideal for users who prefer enhanced privacy while still delivering room-filling sound.

Despite its streamlined design, the speaker is fully compatible with the Sonos ecosystem. It can be used on its own or expanded later through stereo pairing, additional rooms, or as part of a larger home theatre setup.

“We believe the first speaker you bring home should sound complete on its own, and become even better as your Sonos system grows,” said Chris Kallai, VP of Product Creation at Sonos.

A Connected Listening Experience Across Every Room

Both speakers are designed to support a flexible and expanding audio system. Users can enjoy music, podcasts, TV, and movies across multiple rooms using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, with access to more than 100 streaming services.

The Sonos platform continues to evolve through ongoing software updates, expanded compatibility, and hardware designed to work across multiple product generations.

The speakers were also tuned with feedback from the Sonos Soundboard, a community of creators and experts from across music and film, ensuring the audio experience stays true to the artist’s intent.

The Sonos Play and Sonos Era 100 SL will be available for pre-order starting March 10, 2026, with full retail availability beginning March 31, 2026.

Consumers can pre-order the speakers directly via the Sonos website and through select retail partners.
