SHURE CELEBRATES 60 YEARS OF THE ICONIC SM58 MICROPHONE USED BY GENERATIONS OF MUSIC LEGENDS!

For six decades, the legendary Shure SM58 microphone has remained one of the most recognisable and trusted pieces of equipment in live music history. Since its launch in 1966, the iconic vocal microphone has become a staple on stages around the world, used by everyone from emerging artists to global superstars.

Now, as the SM58 celebrates its 60th anniversary, Shure is marking the occasion with a month-long Iconic Mic Celebration throughout May 2026.

The Microphone That Defined Live Performance

Designed specifically for live vocals, the SM58 quickly became the industry benchmark thanks to its durability, reliability, and instantly recognisable sound. From intimate club gigs to massive festival stages, the microphone has consistently delivered clear and natural vocals in virtually every live environment imaginable.

Its cardioid pickup pattern helps reduce unwanted background noise and feedback, while its rugged construction and internal shock mount make it ideal for life on the road.

Even after six decades, the original design philosophy remains largely unchanged — proof of just how influential the microphone has been in shaping modern live sound.

According to Chris Schyvinck, very few products manage to stay culturally and professionally relevant for such a long period of time.

“The SM58 has been trusted across generations not because of trends, but because it works, night after night, show after show,” Schyvinck explained.

Why Artists Still Choose the SM58 Today

While the SM58 has a deep legacy in music history, it continues to be a go-to microphone for today’s biggest artists and rising stars alike.

Among them is Olivia Dean, who recently won Best New Artist at the 68th GRAMMY Awards and regularly uses the SM58 as part of her live setup.

Dean praised the microphone’s warm and classic sound, as well as its reliability during live performances.

For her The Art of Loving Tour, the singer even opted for a chrome-finished SM58 to match the visual design of the show.

The continued popularity of the microphone highlights how analogue performance tools can remain timeless in an increasingly digital music industry.

From Concert Stages to Cultural Moments

Over the years, the SM58 has been present during some of the world’s most important cultural and entertainment moments. Beyond concerts, the microphone has appeared during presidential speeches, major international broadcasts, live television productions, and historic performances globally.

Its signature spherical grille has become synonymous with live performance itself — instantly recognisable to performers, engineers, and music fans alike.

Today, the microphone remains a fixture in professional touring rigs, rehearsal studios, podcast spaces, and grassroots venues worldwide.

Shure’s 2026 Iconic Mic Celebration

To honour the microphone’s milestone anniversary, Shure is celebrating throughout May with special offers on several of its most popular microphones.

The promotion includes discounts on the SM58 alongside other well-known models including the Shure SM7B and Shure MV7+.

More information about the anniversary campaign and product range can be found on the official Shure UK website.
