SABRINA SONG ANNOUNCES NEW EP BIG TRICK AND DROPS HEARTFELT SINGLE “PLAY IT COOL”

Brooklyn-based alt-pop singer-songwriter and producer Sabrina Song is back with her latest project, Big Trick, set to release on May 8, 2026, and available for pre-save here. Ahead of the EP, Song shares the playful and intimate single “Play It Cool”, complete with a matching lyric video, capturing the thrill and vulnerability of falling in love.

On April 25, Song will support indie rock band Pom Pom Squad at Brooklyn’s Elsewhere Zone One, bringing her signature emotional intensity to the stage.

A Natural Evolution After Her Debut

Big Trick follows Song’s 2024 debut album, You Could Stay in One Spot and I’d Love You the Same, and explores themes of self-compassion, romance, and the pressures of creative life. Reflecting on the EP’s origin, Song explains:

“After the release of my debut album last year, I began working on new music with no expectations or plans. Those songs slowly started to take shape around a theme of disillusionment, which led me to the title Big Trick. The title track delves into the vulnerability of ugly feelings, letting yourself change your mind, and feeling the full spectrum of your emotions.”

“Play It Cool”: Love in Full Display

Over shimmering guitar strums and an infectious chorus, “Play It Cool” captures Song’s heart-on-sleeve approach to love. She describes it as:

“A love song about falling head over heels for someone, and being nearly embarrassed about how intense of a feeling it is. I wanted to capture the lightness and playfulness of that feeling.”

The lyric video, animated by Anna Neiger, features pairs of animals that mate for life, aligning beautifully with the song’s romantic theme.

Previous Highlights and Rising Recognition

Song’s prior tracks have built a devoted following. “Moving Target” celebrates chasing dreams and small joys, landing on Pitchfork’s Selects playlist while “LOCK” featured on Spotify’s Created by Women and Next Gen Songwriters playlists. Her 2022 breakout “Strawberry” has amassed over 4 million streams, earning comparisons from NYLON to Blondshell and Olivia Rodrigo, while i-D Magazine praised her track “Doors” as “perhaps the most measured song about a volatile relationship you’ll hear.”

Song has toured extensively across the US and Canada, performing at SXSW in 2021 and 2023, and sharing stages with artists such as Alameda, August Ponthier, Del Water Gap, and Sarah Kinsley.

Collaborative Spirit and Indie Impact

As both a writer and producer, Song collaborates with rising indie talent like Mercer Henderson, dearest, and Sofia D’Angelo. Her debut album’s deluxe edition features reimagined tracks by peers emory and OK Cowgirl, demonstrating her commitment to innovation within the indie scene.

Her single “LOCK” and “Moving Target” continue to receive editorial playlist support, cementing her status as one of indie music’s most compelling voices.
